Another appreciation post for my early season buck, because I don’t know if I appreciated it enough initially.

There’s something about sitting in a tree, 20 feet off the ground, that’s hard to put into words. It gives me a chance to slow down, clear my head, and appreciate things I probably wouldn’t notice in everyday life. The sounds, the changing seasons, the cold mornings, the sunsets, the wildlife passing through.. it all becomes part of the experience.

Every time I head out to the prairie for a hunt, I come to the same realization: I’m a person who thrives in a whole lot of nothing.

The farther I get from the chaos of civilization, the harder it becomes to leave. There’s something about the quiet, the open space, the lack of anywhere to be and nothing demanding my attention that feels less like an escape and more like where I’m supposed to be. 🦌

I’ve been craving a feeling lately. Fishing hasn’t even been about catching fish for me. Sure, that’s always a bonus, but I find myself looking back at old pictures and missing the memories, the adventures, and the happiness I felt in those moments.

Take salmon fishing, for example. River salmon are gross and ugly lol. Unless you catch that first, fresh push, you’re probably hooking a half dead river zombie. 😂

And yet, I’ve been itching to go salmon fishing. Not because I particularly want to catch one, but because I love fishing. I love fall. I love the colors on the trees, the warmth in the air mixed with that cool breeze, and everything that comes with that time of year.

I think that’s what I’m really chasing these days… the feeling. The happy memories. The kind of days that stick with you long after the fish are gone.

Not the half dead fish. 😜
