You don’t need to journal harder.
You don’t need a better routine or a more optimized system.

This doesn’t feel like too much because you’re failing.

It feels like too much because you’re covering for everything that’s missing.

That’s the overassignment of modern motherhood.

Modern motherhood can start to feel like one long stream of responsibilities.

Meals, schedules, planning, anticipating.

Tonight I decided dinner could just be fun.

The sushi train was a huge hit.

Sometimes making space for joy inside the chaos is part of not disappearing into motherhood.

People love to say mothers “lose themselves.”

I’ve heard versions of this before.

Sometimes it’s said jokingly.
Sometimes it’s said like a warning.

And sometimes you catch yourself wondering if it’s true.

But something else usually happens.

Motherhood quietly fills a woman’s life with responsibilities that didn’t exist before.

Planning.
Managing.
Anticipating.
Holding everything together.

Eventually there’s very little room left for the person doing all that work.

From the outside, it can look like she disappeared.

Most mothers didn’t disappear.

They just ran out of room.

You’re still in there. 🤍

When responsibility expands and support doesn’t, you don’t become low-capacity.

You become over-assigned.

You are not the problem.

Gratitude and compression can coexist.

The joy is real.

The laughter.
The closeness.
The relational work.

What’s heavier is the layer wrapped around it.

The anticipating.
The stabilizing.
The constant micro-regulating that keeps everything steady.

When that invisible layer never turns off, you start questioning yourself.

You don’t need to.

It’s not the love.

“Strong” is a flattering word.

It’s also convenient.

Because if you’re strong, no one has to ask how much you’re absorbing.

If you’re strong, no one has to build backup.

If you’re strong, personal collapse becomes a character flaw.

Not a design flaw.

The problem isn’t strength.
