Mother of African cinema, revolutionary storyteller, poet of the lens. She chose her name, chose her path, and chose to make cinema a weapon for liberation. Guadeloupean descent.

From Paris’s Black theatre roots to Moscow’s radical film school, from Négritude to Angola’s fight for independence she carved stories that centered Black women, everyday resistance, and African voices told by African hands.
Her films weren’t just art they were action.
They still are.

Honoring a visionary who lit the screen with power, poetry, and purpose.
