KopiJam at VS. Creative Lab 🌺

This past weekend, @nusahaus.ca presented Vancouver’s first Nusantara-themed art exhibition, bringing together artists from across Maritime Southeast Asia and the diaspora for a night celebrating cultures connected by sea.

From visual art, short films, poetry, and immersive displays to an unforgettable open-mic karaoke session that had the whole room singing together, the space became a true gathering point for Malay, Indonesian, Singaporean, Filipino, and Southeast Asian stories.

Much love to the DJs who set the tone for the night: @darealneels @jinlooi_

And a deep appreciation to the artists who shared their work and voices with us:
@abelberith
@fishyyy_9
@arinadamaren
@mariannevaldezart
@oilsofaradhya
@jjaydesouza
@itsfrank_lee
@commacomrade
@le_tishi
@ryffaqaryra

Thank you to @rasanesia.van and @604.bakes for keeping everyone fed with seriously delicious food all night long.

This collaboration grew from conversations sparked through the Create for the Community Grant, and we’re grateful to @marawrs and @arrivalshop.ca for helping open opportunities that connect artists, organizers, and community ideas.

Thank you for trusting VS. Creative Lab as a home for this gathering of “seablings” and to everyone who showed up, dressed up, sang loud, shared stories, and made the night unforgettable.

Missed the opening? Come visit the space this week to check it out:

Have you ever given gratitude to the sea?

Last October, we got to join @nusahaus.ca for a Puja Pantai - a ceremony of gratitude to the sea, but unlike any we have participated in before.

Then, together with a crew of about 50 people, we cleaned the beach & coastal marine area at Crab Park in Vancouver, B.C.

This was our first ever Puja Pantai, and by far are most ‘urban’ beach cleanup setting(which had some added hazards)

It was also SO SO special to be included in this cultural celebration and show of appreciation for our oceans.

We have lots of beach cleanups coming up this summer around Vancouver, so if you’d like to join, then you are in the right spot!

We’d love to join you for a beach cleanup, or have you join us. Our summer dates/locations are just about to roll out! Hope to see you on shore. 🙏🏼💛🌊

Can you guess the craziest thing we found at crab park? 👀

Meet Andrea - a Malaysian born, Burnaby-based lash technician with over six years of experience, known for her soft, clean, and thoughtfully customized sets. Her work focuses on enhancing natural features through delicate, wispy styles that feel effortless yet intentional.

Beyond lashing, Andrea runs her own creative practice, designing branding, content, and visuals that reflect the same attention to detail found in her beauty work. For her, it’s not just about the final look, but the full experience—something cohesive, elevated, and quietly impactful.

Deeply connected to the Nusantara diaspora, Andrea draws inspiration from the understated beauty of everyday rituals. Self-care, presentation, and the subtle ways we carry ourselves all inform her approach.

Growing up surrounded by a blend of cultures and shared traditions has shaped her perspective on beauty as something gentle and intentional. Through both her lash artistry and creative direction, Andrea creates work that feels welcoming—something people can see themselves in, and feel at home with.
