I’m sitting here, as I’m writing this caption, in a coffee shop eating a banging avocado bagel while my kids are at their wonderful Montessori school with all their lovely friends knowing they are completely safe, happy and loved.

This is what I call luxury, a different kind of peace that would have been so much harder to achieve in London.

While I’m so grateful to have been raised in London, it made me resilient, hard working and gave me a great work ethic, for this chapter of life (motherhood) it no longer served me. I believe that, if we are privileged enough to have this, different places are suited to us as different stages of our lives. A bit like how people moved abroad in retirement for a slower pace, this is also how I wanted to live in early motherhood.

I love this country, and im so grateful to have had the opportunity to experience life here. It’s taught me so much and challenged my world views that I didn’t even realise I had. For those who cba to watch the vid… here are the 10 reasons we moved from London to Senegal…

1. New career paths 💼 Mr M wanted to start a farm. Starting a business here feels way more doable than in the UK.

2. Slower pace 🐢 No rushing. No anxiety over being 5 minutes late.

3. More support 🙌 House help and childcare means we can actually breathe.

4. Closer to nature 🌴 Beaches, lagoons, palm trees, wildlife.

5. Cultural integration 🌍 Learning different ways of living. Questioning what we’ve been taught.

6. Family 👴🏽 We got to spend the kids’ grandad’s last years living together.

7. Fresher food 🥭 Fruit that tastes like fruit. Fish from the sea — not a tank.

8. Heritage For the kids to live it, not just hear about it.

9. Freedom from UK: I was done with “No ball games, shush your kids.” 😂

10. The sun ☀️ Vitamin D is thriving. It completely changes my mood.

At the end of the day? Better quality of life. To stop surviving and start living ❤️

Love, Nush xxx

I’M BACK…. From what felt like a million years of my kids summer holidays 🤪

And can you believe this September marks 3 years since we moved to Senegal from London! Time flies, it’s crazy 😱

Reflecting on what’s happened since living here, it’s safe to say life has been life-ing 😵‍💫

We have…

🏡 Bought our first family home (currently deep in the reno phase after buying it in pretty derelict shape)

💍 Got married + had 70+ friends & family fly out to Senegal for our wedding (big love to you guys 🤍)

✨ Started a retreats business @wearenuka_ with my sister-in-law @ninka.mbaye

🚜 Supported Mr M as his little market garden grew into a whole organic farm! Never thought I’d be a farmer’s wife…

🇫🇷 Learnt French, which something I once thought was impossible!

🍗 Said goodbye to vegan life (although we still only eat whole foods, as natural and organic as possible)

💻 Been taking a course to host sharing circles, especially for mums, because community has helped my mental health so much in motherhood!

But it hasn’t all been highs…

❤️‍🩹 I miss my friends and family like crazy, only seeing them once a year if that

💔 I had a miscarriage

🕊️ And said goodbye to 4 family members — both my grandmas, and Mr M’s dad + brother

Now the kids are back to school, it means I can finally edit more vids for you guys 🥳

Expect: House reno chaos, Motherhood madness, Life in Senegal, And how I (try to) stay sane + happy… most of the time 💫

Stay tuned 💌

Love always, Nush x

Your daily reminder….

Pregnant women too… don’t you dare criticise how you look…. You’re growing a human and that’s the only incredible thing that matters right now x

At first I was so excited to be having my first baby in Senegal and finally to have a baby in my own home and to really feel settled somewhere.

But now that im entering my third trimester some things have come up for me that has made me realise that this also isn’t the ideal situation to be in.

Having a baby abroad means away from loved ones, it means not being entirely in your comfort zone and perhaps having to make compromises on things you wish you didn’t have to….

Having said that, I’m constantly reminding myself that as humans we are always looking for the greener grass situation and that no where is the perfect environment for anything. And so finding peace and happiness from within is the key.

So yes I’m sad. Does that mean I want to move back to the UK right now? No. I’m ok with holding some grief about this particular life transition ❤️

Some will call it oversharing but I’ve always used this platform to be honest about where I am in life and I don’t plan on stopping that. Hopefully this resonates with someone out there 🥰

Love always, Nush ❤️

Same two people, eight different versions 🤍

We were 25 and 29 when this started, with absolutely no clue what we were walking into. A year of pure fun and passion, then suddenly a baby on the way, and then a pandemic that locked us in together when we’d barely known each other 18 months. Most couples get years to grow into each other. We got about six weeks.

Then came parenthood. I had to work out who I was as a mother, and we had to work out who we were as a couple, with no real home base, moving from place to place.

Baby number two arrived, we moved to Senegal full time, and far from friends and family, we became each other’s whole world.

Year five is when something shifted. We both grew into ourselves, and somewhere in that, we fell in love all over again. So we finally got married.

Then 2024 hit us with loss. Grief, mental health, new businesses, and a relationship to look after through all of it.

Last year, work gave us more space apart, and honestly, I think we needed it to find ourselves again.

And now: a half surprise baby, a house almost finished, and two people still choosing to grow, separately and together, into whoever we become next.

12th October… Happy 8 years my love. Whether it’s the model, the farmer, the family man, I’d choose every version of you 🤍

Pregnancy CHOP ✂️

I know it’s drastic but take it from a third time pregnant woman….

The last thing you wanna have to deal with postpartum with a new baby is your hair. Even in pregnancy, having more hair is long!

Make sure you keep everything as low maintenance as possible trust meeeeee on this one mamas ❤️

What do you think?

Would you do a pregnancy chop? 👀

If yes, curly girls head to @curl.talk in east London 📍❤️

The genders during the last 2 pregnancies were kept a surprise but this time we decided to find out as it felt like it would help the kids visualise what was to come…. Ie little brother or sister!

Feels strange knowing before they arrive but now we couldn’t be happier 🥳

Do you prefer knowing or keeping it a surprise? 👀

In case you haven’t guessed it yet…

‘We’ are pregnant 😜

Who would’ve thought we’d be here 8 years ago when I met you in that club.

I’m so grateful to the most high to have connected our souls.

You are a force of nature..

Living abroad means that our usual summer holidays look like dotting around the place trying to see as many loved ones as possible…

This year we spent time with the grandparents in Portugal and then me and Aya head to London to see my brother and friends while Mr M took the boys to see his mum in France.

It’s physically exhausting but amazing ❤️

It makes me an emotional watching the footage back….

I know that it looks like we have an idyllic life overseas, for the most part we do and I’m so grateful and blessed, but there is a sacrifice you have to make living away from home.

It feels like half your heart is in one country and the rest in another 💔

Seeing my kids with aunties and uncles, experiencing the culture that I grew up in always makes me wonder if we are living in the right place. We miss so much of each others lives…. And I really do believe life is not about what you do but who you spend it with.

Having said that, the quality of the time we do spend with our loved ones is unmatched, you know it’s limited so you embrace every moment, commit to being fully present with them and appreciate everything you took for granted beforehand.

I know we are super privileged to even have the choice where to live and with that I’ve made my peace with the incredible slower pace lifestyle we’ve created for ourselves in Senegal.

I suppose the lesson is that there is no such thing as the perfect place to live…. So even if the weather is shite and you’re pissed off with public transport but you can hug your mum or your sister or best friend this weekend… know that your heart is in the right place 🥰

I’ve made peace with the fact that part of my heart will always be back home but who knows one day that might change ✨

Let me know if this resonates with anyone else xxx
