On a meal experience day, one teacher, while grabbing a meal said, "Maybe I will stay in to have lunch with them today." Having meals in unity with staff and adults is something that students said was important to them in a student nutrition program, so this was exciting to see! In Finland, a model country for food in schools, school meals are a shared social experience where teachers often eat with students. Not only does this nurture relationships, but it also serves as a way to model things like healthy habits, manners, and food exploration. Food for All is more than nourishing students; food is a way that we connect with one another and a way to build community. Food at school says we all BELONG. 🚨Stay tuned! For the next month, we will be showcasing our Food for All pilot. You won't want to miss the magic! 🪄 #foodinschool #foodforall #nutritionforlearning #webelong #waterlooregion #teachersareawesome by @nutritionforlearning
This month's Food for All launch has been nothing short of magical. Our pilot schools, our meal partners, and our staff have worked so hard to make it happen — and the impact so far has been beyond what we could have imagined! This footage was captured at one of our Kitchener schools. A big thanks to @realfoodforrealkids for preparing, delivering, and helping serve this absolutely delicious hot meal. Students came back for seconds and even THIRDS. 🎉 Something the school staff loved seeing was teachers joining in and eating lunch with the students. A true community meal, where everyone could feel like they BELONG. 🚨Stay tuned! For the next month, we will be showcasing our Food for All pilot. You won't want to miss the magic! 🪄 #foodforall #foodinschool #nutritionforlearning #Belonging #waterlooregion #healthyfood #nourishingfood by @nutritionforlearning
Why is Food for All so important? At Nutrition for Learning we believe that when students are nourished, they are better able to imagine, explore, and connect. That means more kids are likely to participate in the classroom and in extracurriculars. Providing meals to students in our pilot programs offers every student a fair shot at being nourished without stigma. Food is community. And food at school says we all BELONG. 🚨Stay tuned! For the next month, we will be showcasing our Food for All pilot. You won't want to miss the magic! 🪄 #Foodforall #WaterlooRegion #mealsinschool #foodinschool #studentnutrition #nutritionforlearning by @nutritionforlearning
What does the Food for All pilot program look like in action? Lately, we're noticing that at the end of a meal, it looks like a cleared plate! This chickpea cauliflower curry community meal at one of our pilot schools in Cambridge was a big hit. Thank you, Glenview Park Secondary School culinary students, for preparing this lovely hot meal for our elementary school students. One parent said, "I just wanted to say how much they loved the food and the experience! They both said the food was 'really good' and that they ate it all and that they loved trying the food with their class. They asked when their school can have it for lunch again!" We loved hearing not only that students loved the food, but they loved trying it with their class — food is definitely more fun with friends! Food connects us, and food in school says we all BELONG. 🚨Stay tuned! For the next month, we will be showcasing our Food for All pilot. You won't want to miss the magic! 🪄 #nutritionforlearning #schoolfood #webelong #foodforall #waterlooregion #schoolmeals by @nutritionforlearning
"This apple is so fresh! Did you pick it right from a tree?" is a question a student asked our Nutrition for Learning staff at a meal event at one of our Food for All pilot schools recently. And it couldn't make us happier! We love seeing students enjoying fresh, wholesome foods in school. 🍎 This school year, thanks to 3-year seed funding from @ontrillium, we have launched the Food for All pilot program in 12 schools in Waterloo Region. These schools receive elevated meal experiences, featuring fresh, Ontario-produced food. Through these programs, we are reimagining what food in schools could look like in the future! These community meals don't just nourish students; they help connect. Because food in school says we all BELONG. 🚨Stay tuned! For the next month, we will be showcasing our Food for All pilot. You won't want to miss the magic! 🪄 #foodinschool #foodforall #nutritionforlearning #webelong #waterlooregion by @nutritionforlearning
