“Aloha ke ola.” (Love is life.) Hawai‘i has always held a special place in my life—a place where sea and sky meet in ways that silence the noise of the world. The islands breathe a rhythm all their own: waves crashing like drums of the Earth, the sun igniting every horizon, and the spirit of the land reminding us that beauty is both fleeting and eternal. This photo, with the rock standing firm against the tide, holds that lesson for me. No matter how many years pass, the ocean still rises, the sun still illuminates, and the story continues. My greatest hope now is to return here with my wife. She has never walked these shores, never felt this kind of magic for herself. To share this place with her—to watch her see the light dance on the waves, to breathe in the air heavy with salt and blossoms—that will be a joy unlike any other. Until then, Hawai‘i waits. This is one of my favorite shots from Washington, it’s at a botanical garden about 20 min from Dulles airport. We spent an hr or two just walking around in this. This is still just a modeled down JPEG from snap but I am anxious to see the RAW edit. Getting back into the swing of things I’m rusty, and the technology is SO good now. I’m working at some hydrogen alpha filter set ups for some of my shots, in vision phase still. I have worked and waited, all my life to take the shots I’m working toward right now. From years of being ostracized for being weird, that “fat kid” and all the criticism I took for solar observations during my lunch in middle school. To just keeping up on my daily routine and records of sunspots, and time in the library 📚 going between observations of solar structure and learning how light works. To the optics and how our eyes, pre process light received, Rods and cones, luminous vs reflective, additive and subtractive light/color wavelengths, diffraction, inverse square laws, law of reciprocity, and so many other intricate details of the way we perceive our world. To the experiments proving color is a figment of our imagination, presented by Edwin H. Land the inventor of land’s polaroid cameras. To the incredible minds like Nathan Myhrvold author of modernist cuisine, and formerly chief technology officer at Microsoft, to Steve Jobs,and all the minds @nikonusa, @sony , @canonusa and so many more, the minds that bring us the technology, we use to process how we see, interpret and share the world around us. Remember tho, as Galen Rowell said in his book, “the inside game of outdoor photography” “…90% of all photography is done without the camera…” go out and experience your life. Some days the way forward isn’t clear. There isn’t a map, or a sign, or even a reason that makes sense yet. There is only a quiet feeling that standing still isn’t where you’re meant to stay. I know I’ve been quiet. Not idle. Not lost. Just building. Some work isn’t meant for a camera. Some things require both hands, full attention, and a little stubborn faith that the long road is worth walking. So while it’s been quiet out here… behind the scenes has been anything but. There are some beautiful stories coming. The world feels heavy right now. People are tired. Everyone’s being told what to want, what to think, what to chase. Maybe what we actually need… is something different. For the past few years I’ve been working on what started as sketches and late-night ideas — a “black project” that refused to stay small. Failures. Rebuilds. Lessons learned the hard way. Progress earned inch by inch. The first fully functional prototype is finally coming together. Its name is VAULT-Atlas. I believe it’s something we should all have access to. And so we shall. I can’t share much more yet. Soon. For now — start close to home. Talk to your neighbors. Know your community. Build connections that don’t disappear when a signal drops. We need to network. Locally. #VAULTAtlas connects us to what we need. Not what we’re told to want. We are here! Have an appointment today with the wife so I will try and get back to get an update on the first big project! But if not today tomorrow! Being a father, husband, and caregiver, while owing a ranch and trying to launch a business. It takes a lot out of you. But I love everything about it! Even small wins feel@good, fixed a controller yesterday and saved $70- $10 part for an $80 controller, 5 minute job. Being a problem solver, is my super power. I’m moved beyond words by the people standing out in the cold right now (some my personal friends) — braving below-zero temperatures to demand justice and to get ICE out of Minnesota and out of our country. Today, streets were filled with protesters and hundreds of businesses closed in solidarity as part of a statewide economic blackout calling for accountability and change. What we are witnessing is not a fringe moment — it’s a collective stand against policies and actions that have caused harm. The protests were sparked by the tragic killing of Renée Nicole Good, a 37-year-old woman who was murdered by an ICE agent during an enforcement operation in Minneapolis — an event that enraged me, and has since ignited outrage, grief, nationwide demonstrations, and calls for ICE’s removal from the state. To those who hide posts, shield themselves in echo chambers, or retreat at the first sign of discomfort: empty words without action have no power. Real change happens when people show up — not just in rhetoric, but in presence, in solidarity, in our collective refusal to let injustice stand unchallenged.To the friends, neighbors, and activists standing outside right now: • Your courage matters. Showing up, whether you’re at the march, sharing accurate information, supporting loved ones, or educating those around you — it all counts. • This is a moment for accountability, not aggression.
