So happy to announce I won Best Director - Musical at the 2025 Lou Awards!! This cast and team made for the most fulfilling work I've done to date. It feels great when the work you're proudest of is also the work that gets recognized. While I couldn't accept in person because I'm in Europe (pictured - me in Prague), @orangejeans accepted on my behalf with some of the cast cheering me on from afar.

Also, shout-out to @john_marshall_jr, without whom I would never have won this. He took every half-baked and bad idea I had and made them work. When in doubt, make it spin! by @nw.director

It's taken a while for me to post the photos to this show because I've had a hard time letting this one go. It was simultaneously one of the hardest and most fulfilling directing experiences I've ever had. I'm eternally grateful to my cast and team for making it what it was. Let's do another one soon.

Next up at @so_stage, Spring Awakening! This show has been in the making for almost two years, and I can’t wait to finally share it with everyone. I really think it’s some of the best work I’ve done, so join us if you can! www.schaumburgonstage.org/sa by @nw.director

Thinking today about how a lot of the work directors do is solo and unseen, but also the ways in which we cannot do our work without other people.

There’s a lot of time I spend reading scripts, seeing shows, talking to people, etc that’s instrumental to the work. But often that’s not viewed an a part of the job - it’s just the stuff you do to get the next gig. And thats a really discouraging mindset - it has made me feel in the past like I’m not “doing” anything. I have to remind myself (and anyone else doing this job) that much of what we do is preparation. Whether that be preparing for a specific process, or preparing ourselves as artists.

By the same token, we cannot create work entirely of our own accord (or at least, most of the time). Unlike a potter that can go to a studio or even an actor that can prepare audition materials, our job requires people as a medium.

So consider the ways that preparation may be the work itself. And let yourself off the hook a little. I’m certainly trying to. by @nw.director
