For Read Across America this year, each class selected an author to focus on for a week of activities. The students participated in a range of activities, from math to creative expression, aiming to make the books come alive and foster a passion for reading.💡 This year students read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle whose theme is centered around transformation and growth 💡 Students also read the Llama Llama Series which is filled with a bunch of amazing stories and life lessons that’s easy for students to grasp 💡 Part 2. Coming Soon Insha’Allaah 💡 by @nyafaceresources

Excelsior gets to teach Black History in its fullness. 🤗 Our students don’t just learn about our history in America or during slavery- they learn about who we were BEFORE that. 🤴🏽👸🏾 A few of the lessons we explore include wealthy African civilizations that dated back thousands of years ago, Africans who sailed the oceans long before Christopher Columbus did⛵️🌊 the Moors and their impact on European culture, Black Native Americans, and more! Here’s a highlight of our “Blacks In Wax” event where students dress up as their favorite icons and help us teach their peers! 🤗 #DareToExcel #PhiladelphiaPrivateSchools #greatphillyschools #ExcellenceInAction #BlacksInWax #BlackHistoryForKids by @nyafaceresources
🍎 One of the benefits of being a Black-owned private school is that Excelsior gets to teach Black History in its fullness. 🤗 Our students don’t just learn about our history in America or during slavery- they get to learn about who we were BEFORE that. 🤴🏽👸🏾A few of the lessons we explore include wealthy African civilizations that dated back thousands of years ago, Africans who sailed the oceans long before Christopher Columbus did⛵️🌊 the Moors and their impact on European culture, Black Native Americans, and more!
