Hey guys! 👋🏾

Its re-introduction time!
I’m a licensed clinical psychologist in the DMV, seeing clients for individual, couples, and family therapy, plus testing and group work.

I work with folks navigating depression, anxiety, PTSD, relationship issues, and life transitions, and my clients are as diverse as the area. 🌍 LGBTQ, immigrants, teens, adults… all are welcome here.

Curious about therapy, testing, or anything psychology related?

Finding the right therapist is a lot like dating.
Sometimes it’s a first-date spark.
Sometimes you have to swipe, interview, and politely move on. And that’s normal.

Here’s how to make the process a little easier as you start or continue your wellness journey.

Save this for later, share it with a friend who’s “thinking about therapy,” and remember, you’re allowed to keep looking until it fits.

🌎Hispanic psychologists you should know!

Psychology has been shaped by so many brilliant minds, but not all of their contributions get the recognition they deserve.

To cap off Hispanic Heritage Month, I’m highlighting a few psychologists whose work has helped shape the field, from advancing multicultural psychology to strengthening psychological research and education across Latin America.

Like, repost & share so more people can learn about these psychologists & their contributions. by @nyashamc

I recently attended Backline’s Harmony in Practice 🎼 workshop for mental health clinicians working with music industry professionals in Chicago. I left with a broader view of how mental health resources are utilized in the music industry & ways to make them more accessible…especially for touring musicians and their families. I also left with some great connections and ideas on how to expand on my previous research on musicians in hip-hop and R&B (more on that soon!). BTW @backline.care just turned 7 🎂; please follow them and/or share their page with your network! taken in Chicago, IL by @nyashamc

Check out my mini recap of #APA2026! Had a blast being in a space with thousands of colleagues, especially with it being in my backyard. Don’t mind my voiceover redundancies- I recorded this too many times 🫣 by @nyashamc

The FIFA World Cup 2026 gave us unforgettable goals, dramatic finishes, and celebrations we’ll be talking about for years. I was lucky enough to attend watch parties in five countries, and no matter where I was, the same theme kept emerging: these shared experiences were more than entertainment—they were a powerful source of connection and psychological well-being.

For a few weeks, match highlights brought strangers together, strengthened our sense of belonging, introduced us to new cultures, created joyful memories, and offered a much-needed pause from the stress of everyday life.

Whether you watched every match or only tuned in for the final, I hope this carousel serves as a reminder that connection, celebration, and community are not just enjoyable—they are protective factors for our well-being.

⚽️ What was your favorite World Cup moment?

If you’re wondering what wedding of the century looks like- here’s a snippet! I feel so honored to have been invited to @livin_lavina_loca and @dr.friyayy’s wedding w/ my default +1 @itsmercyc; it was the funnest, hottest (literally & figuratively 🌞), most luxurious affair I’ve ever attended…in Malta! From the welcome party, to the Indian ceremonies, the Black tie event, the wild bus rides and after party…positive energy, love and authenticity were palpable. I’m so happy my homie Friday found their forever partner in Lavina (no Leo bias) and excited to have made 100 new friends through their union ✨🫶🏾 by @nyashamc

I’m honored to be presenting at the IPA Spring Forward Virtual Conference [May 16th] on a topic that is deeply personal and professionally meaningful to me: culturally responsive therapy with first- and second-generation immigrant clients.

As both a clinician and someone who understands the complexity of navigating culture, identity, and belonging, I’m grateful for the opportunity to speak to experiences that are so often lived quietly but deeply felt by many of my clients.

Looking forward to sharing this conversation with fellow clinicians and exploring how we can continue building care that is thoughtful, affirming, and culturally attuned. by @nyashamc

Breaking up with your therapist can feel awkward, emotional, even a little guilt-inducing but it’s also allowed. Therapy is a relationship, and sometimes relationships run their course.

Here’s the part people forget: therapists are human. We can hold it. The discomfort, the honesty, even the “this isn’t working for me.” In fact, we’re trained for exactly that. Plus your feedback (yes, even the uncomfortable kind) can be meaningful and help us grow, too.

But ghosting? 🥹 That part’s rough and can leave us guessing.

If you can, say the thing. Close the loop and give the ending the same care you gave the beginning. by @nyashamc

Bedtime stories… but make them life skills 📚✨

I’m always looking for books that do more than entertain. The kind that quietly teach kids how to navigate the world, from asking for help, to managing money, to building confidence in unfamiliar situations.
These are a few I love, written by women in my community who are doing the real work of shaping how kids learn, feel, and grow.

Because emotional intelligence, resilience, and practical life skills don’t just appear one day. They’re taught, modeled, and reinforced over time.

Which one would you add to your bookshelf?
💡 PS: I’m building a resource hub, so don’t be surprised if some of your recommendations end up there. by @nyashamc

As part of my Women’s History Month series, I’m highlighting psychologists whose work expanded the scope of care within the field.

E. Kitch Childs, Ph.D. was not only a psychologist, but an activist and community builder. She helped found the Association for Women in Psychology and was part of Chicago’s Gay Liberation Front, advocating for both gender and LGBTQ+ equity.

In her clinical work, she provided therapy to LGBTQ+ individuals, people living with HIV/AIDS, and others who were often excluded from traditional care.

Her work reminds us that access to mental health support has never been equal, and that creating affirming spaces requires intention, not assumption.

Save this. Share it. And remember that inclusive care is part of ethical care. by @nyashamc
