From the first record to the last one at, the Afrikan Freedom Station became exactly what it was always meant to be 🔥— a sanctuary. A space of pure freedom, pure music, pure love.

You came in from the cold and you gave us everything. The energy, the movement, the presence — Ma’Afrika, you showed up and you showed out. This one will live with us for a long time.

The music took us on a journey through time and across the continent. Deep, soulful, unbroken. Exactly as freedom should feel.

To everyone who made this night what it was — thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. 🙏🏾

Big up to the man who dreamed this whole thing into existence — the Freedom Party organiser, the visionary, the one and only NYAUIST. You brought it home. 🔥

Dumelang Ma’Afrika ❤️🌍

✊🏾 FIRST REVEAL. INA DEEP PAN DANCE.

She coined the term DJ Scholarship. She has played the Tate Modern, lectured at Stanford, UCLA and Spelman College, written for the Los Angeles Times and Oprah Daily — and now she brings all of that knowledge, all of that love for the Black Atlantic and its bass culture, to the Afrikan Freedom Station.

@lynneedenise is not just a DJ. She is an archivist. A cultural worker. A scholar of sound. Los Angeles-raised, Amsterdam-based, and deeply rooted in the underground nightclub movements of the African diaspora.

On the 25th of April, in the month of freedom, she digs for us at the FREEDOM PARTY!!

This is not entertainment. This is a living archive.

we asked the Cape Town–based dj & sound artist about a record he loves, and his pick is Robson Banda & the New Black Eagles’ ‘Soweto’

though the band was based in Zimbabwe, the song is a prayer in support of the people of Soweto. it’s shaped by a wider southern African moment in which music moved closely with liberation struggles, including the years of rеvolutionary uprising in Zimbabwe taken in Cape Town, South Africa by @nyauist
