On August 27 we brought together an amazing community of students, researchers, engineers, educators, makers, robotics teams, and industry professionals to connect, share ideas, explore robotics, and celebrate the many pathways into STEM. It was an incredible evening for Women in Robotics and STEM 🤖✨
This event was in collaboration with @nycfirstrobotics @cornell_tech @womentgxinroboticsnyc and @swecornell

A huge thank you to our speakers for sharing their work, experiences, and perspectives:
Cornell Tech: Niti Parikh
Women in Robotics: Mandy Meindersma
Cornell Tech AIRLab: Ann-Kareen Gedeus and Promise Ekpo
Cornell SWE: Falak Raheja, Christy Cheung, Riya Guttigoli, Selin Toker, Amanda Rundell, Jackie Antelo, and Allison Lou
Loomia: Jennifer Enriquez
NYC FIRST: Kate Karageorgiou, Andrea Maidanik, Rudiana Bunbury, and NYC FIRST alum Ashley Reyes

We were also thrilled to welcome organizations and companies from across the STEM and maker community, including @3dbuffalo @solidworks @loomia_tech @makerfaireconeyisland , @cornell_tech AIRLab, and @inventibotz , alongside the all girls teams @sns_robotics and @femaidens who helped bring student robotics into the spotlight.

Events like this are only possible because of the people who step up to support them. A special shoutout to all of our volunteers and to Safa from @mechatronics13368, Jolie from @aimrobotics_, and Izabela in addition to our volunteer photographer Manpreet Kaur for capturing the energy of the evening. 📸

Most of all, thank you to everyone who joined us, asked questions, shared their work, made new connections, and helped build a stronger robotics community in NYC. We’re excited to keep creating spaces where the next generation of engineers, makers, researchers, and robotics leaders can connect and grow. 💛🤖

What if algebra wasn’t just Xs and Ys on a whiteboard?

Meet Sophia Romero. Heading into 9th grade, she was nervous—particularly about math. She always felt like math required memorizing steps that didn’t mean much outside the classroom.

Summer Sparks is changing the equation. Created with
@nycfirstrobotics, it helps incoming freshmen learn algebra by building and programming robots.

For the first time, Sophia ran the numbers herself and tested them out on her robot. And for the first time, math felt tangible and exciting.

Learn more about Sophia and how  Summer Sparks ignited a new love for math. Link in bio.

🤖 30 hours. One game. A whole lot of building.

On September 12–13, FTC teams came together at the NYC FIRST STEM Center @ Cornell Tech for our annual Robot in 30 Hours event, kicking off the new @first_official_ FIRST Tech Challenge BioBuzz season!

Robot in 30 Hours has become a yearly NYC FIRST tradition: teams watch the new season game reveal, then get straight to work designing, building, programming, testing, and iterating on their robots - all within 30 hours.

But this event is about much more than building a robot. It’s a chance for teams to work alongside one another, exchange ideas, learn new skills, experiment, troubleshoot, and explore the new challenge together. That spirit of collaboration is what makes the NYC robotics community so strong.

These photos are just a few highlights from an incredible weekend of making, problem-solving, teamwork, and late-night robotics. ⚙️🔧

We’re so excited to officially kick off the new season with everyone, and we can’t wait to see what NYC teams bring to the competition field this year.

Here’s to an amazing BioBuzz season! 🐝🤖

What better way to start the new school year than by celebrating the educators who work so hard to strengthen their own skills, expand their knowledge, and create even more opportunities for their students and communities. 🤖

At the NYC FIRST STEM Center @ Washington Heights, educators came together for four days of hands-on professional development focused on robotics, STEM, and FIRST Tech Challenge.

Teachers explored how FTC works, learned the fundamentals of building and supporting a robotics team, and gained tools and resources they can bring back to their schools this year.

One of the most rewarding parts of our work is having the opportunity to teach the teachers, helping educators build their own knowledge and confidence so they can share it with their students and inspire even more young people to engage with STEM.

A big shoutout to the Washington Heights STEM Center staff who led the program, as well as the NYC FIRST staff who joined the training and facilitated. Our staff and educators are such a crucial part of the NYC FIRST community, and continuing to learn new skills, exchange knowledge, and learn from one another makes our entire community stronger.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, asked questions, experimented, built, and learned alongside one another. We’re excited to see that knowledge continue to grow and reach even more students this school year! 💡🛠️ by @nycfirstrobotics
