That’s my favorite thing about photographing New York.

For a few seconds, someone walks into your frame and you get a tiny glimpse into a life completely separate from your own.

Then the doors close, the train moves, and you never see them again.

Some of the strongest people you know are fighting battles you can’t see. Behind closed doors. Behind smiles. Behind the words “I’m fine.”

Domestic violence doesn’t always leave bruises. And leaving isn’t always as simple as walking out the door. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do for someone is listen without judgment, believe them, and remind them they’re not alone.

Today is Purple Thursday. We wear purple for survivors, for those still living in fear, and for those whose lives were taken by domestic violence. 💜

To anyone who needs to hear this: You deserve love without fear. You deserve to feel safe. You deserve to be heard, believed, and supported. And you don’t have to figure everything out today.

You never really know what someone else is going through. So be kind to each other out there.

New York moves fast. Sometimes photography reminds me not to.

Maybe the reflection isn’t a reflection at all. 👻

The Lucas Theatre has stood in Savannah since 1921. And over the years, stories have followed it — applause reportedly heard inside an empty theater, the sound of a projector when none was running, and shadowy figures that apparently never bought a ticket.

Savannah has always been good at keeping its ghosts around.

Apparently it has an Upside Down, too.
