My birthday has always been my New Year. Every year, I try to become a better version of myself than I was the year before.

In 2025, I was in a dark place. I wasn’t suicidal, but everything felt so heavy. My job (I’m always in trouble… iykyk 😩), debt, family problems—life just seemed like it was coming from every direction. But I kept smiling. I kept showing up. The truth is, people don’t always know what’s behind those smiles.

I got to a point where even praying felt hard.

Then my cousin invited me to church for Watch Night Service on New Year’s Eve. When I walked out that night, something had changed. My load felt lighter, my soul felt different, and for the first time in a long time, I felt like I was exactly where I needed to be.

I realized what had been missing all along—my relationship with God.

Since then, I’ve gone back Sunday after Sunday. Every week, I leave with a gem that carries me through the next one. I’m not perfect, and that’s never been what God has asked of me. He just wanted my heart.

This year, I’ve been to church more often than not after spending years away. That may not seem like a big deal to everyone, but it’s been life-changing for me.

As I celebrate another birthday and step into another personal New Year, I’m grateful. Grateful for God’s grace, His patience, and for never giving up on me—even when I felt distant from Him.
