THE BRIDGE – SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK

LOCATION
Bridgehampton, New York. Approximately two to three hours east of New York City, depending heavily on traffic.

COURSE DESCRIPTION (PRIVATE)
The Bridge is one of Long Island’s most exclusive private clubs and among the most distinctive golf experiences NYGOLFING has encountered.

The Rees Jones-designed course occupies the former Bridgehampton Race Circuit, which hosted major sports-car racing before closing in the late 1990s. Rather than erase that history, The Bridge embraces it. Portions of the original circuit and Chevron Bridge remain, while racing artifacts, contemporary artwork and automotive references appear throughout the property.

Even the smaller details honor the site’s past: the championship markers feature a black-and-white checkered pattern, while the club’s “Golf” logo playfully reimagines the familiar Gulf racing logo.

The modern clubhouse, dramatic elevation changes and expansive views distinguish The Bridge from the traditional clubs surrounding it. Funky, fun and entirely original, this is an experience that could not be replicated anywhere else.

NOTABLE HOLE
(1) Hole 18, Par 5. The finishing hole offers some of the property’s finest views and a legitimate opportunity to close with a birdie. Bunkers guard the left side of the green, while the artwork declaring “There Will Be No Miracles Here” provides an appropriately unconventional backdrop. Play the hole intelligently, and no miracle should be necessary.

ON-SITE FOOD AND DRINKS
(1) The Bridge — Remain on property after the round for drinks, elevated dining and panoramic views across the course toward Noyack Bay. The striking clubhouse provides an appropriately memorable conclusion to one of Long Island’s most original golf experiences.

BALLY’S GOLF LINKS AT FERRY POINT – THE BRONX, NY

LOCATION
The Bronx, NY. Approximately 20 minutes from Manhattan and conveniently located near the Whitestone Bridge.

COURSE DESCRIPTION (PUBLIC)
Bally’s Golf Links at Ferry Point delivers one of New York City’s most distinctive public-golf experiences. Jack Nicklaus designed the expansive links-style layout around rolling fairways, strategic bunkering and windswept fescue, with the Manhattan skyline, East River and Whitestone Bridge shaping its identity.

Excellent conditions and polished amenities create the feel of a private club without sacrificing public access. The exposed setting also places a premium on controlling trajectory and adjusting to the wind.

GREEN FEES
2026 rates are $193–$231 for NYC residents and $246–$283 for non-residents, depending on the day. Twilight and sunset rates are available, while carts and caddies cost extra. Current construction may affect the routing and pricing, so confirm details directly with the course.

NOTABLE HOLES
(1) Hole 13, Par 4. A long, memorable par 4 framed by fescue, with the Manhattan skyline ahead and Whitestone Bridge to the left. It may be the course’s defining combination of strategy and scenery.

(2) Hole 18, Par 5. A dramatic finishing hole played toward the clubhouse beneath the Whitestone Bridge. The American flag near the green adds to one of New York City golf’s best closing settings.

(3) Hole 7, Par 4. The scorecard may tempt golfers to challenge this shorter par 4, but water and the prevailing wind reward thoughtful positioning over unnecessary aggression.

(4) Hole 9, Par 4. The front nine concludes with an approach framed by the Whitestone Bridge, providing another unmistakable reminder that this course could only exist in New York City.

LOCAL FOOD AND DRINKS
(1) The Waterfront NYC — Stay on-site after the round for New American cuisine, local craft beer and wine overlooking the golf course, East River and Whitestone Bridge. Its veranda makes the clubhouse experience part of the destination.

WHISTLING STRAITS – SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WISCONSIN

LOCATION
Sheboygan, Wisconsin. One hour north of Milwaukee and 2.5 hours north of Chicago.

COURSE DESCRIPTION (PUBLIC RESORT)
Whistling Straits feels like dream golf transported from the British Isles to Wisconsin. Pete Dye transformed a former military property into a rugged, walking-only layout featuring enormous bunkers, windswept fescue and repeated views of Lake Michigan.

Opened in 1998, the Straits Course has hosted three PGA Championships and the 2021 Ryder Cup. Wind can completely alter the course, making its “Aeolus” logo—named for the keeper of the winds in Greek mythology—a fitting warning.

Its scenery, architecture and championship history make Whistling Straits one of the finest courses NYGOLFING has experienced.

GREEN FEES
Expect peak-season green fees of approximately $645–$735, depending on the date and package. Add the $90 caddie fee plus gratuity and the potential total is $850–$1,000 before lodging. Twilight rates are discounted 30%. Confirm current pricing with Destination Kohler.

NOTABLE HOLES
(1) Hole 7, Par 3 — “Shipwreck.” The green sits beside Lake Michigan, with crashing waves and shoreline trouble to the right.

(2) Hole 13, Par 4 — “Cliff Hanger.” An intimidating driving hole where bunkers, wind and the lake apply constant pressure.

(3) Hole 17, Par 3 — “Pinched Nerve.” A demanding waterside par 3 whose distance and exposure make club selection especially difficult.

(4) Hole 18, Par 4 — “Dyeabolical.” Multiple routes force golfers to choose their preferred angle into the green beneath the clubhouse.

LOCAL FOOD AND DRINKS
(1) Whistling Straits Restaurant — Located inside the clubhouse overlooking the course and Lake Michigan. Stay for food, drinks and the opportunity to watch other groups finish Dyeabolical.

One final memory: Tony Finau apparently played the course on the same day as NYGOLFING.

PATRIOT HILLS GOLF CLUB – ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY

LOCATION
Stony Point, NY. Approximately one hour north of NYC and 30 minutes west of White Plains.

COURSE DESCRIPTION (PUBLIC)
Patriot Hills is one of NYGOLFING’s favorite public courses in New York. Designed by Rick Jacobson, the mountain layout combines dramatic elevation changes, expansive Hudson Valley scenery and at least six holes capable of serving as signature holes elsewhere.

Play intelligently and scoring opportunities are available. Try to overpower the course and its woods, elevation changes and demanding sightlines can quickly claim several golf balls.

GREEN FEES
2026 nonresident rates range from $55–$135. Stony Point resident rates range from $40–$60. Carts are required. Confirm current pricing with the course.

NOTABLE HOLES
(1) Hole 8, Par 4 — “Willow Grove.” NYGOLFING’s favorite hole here. A severely elevated tee introduces a 200-yard carry to the fairway. Bunkers and out-of-bounds challenge the drive before an uphill approach.

(2) Hole 6, Par 4 — “Lime Kiln.” This short, dramatically downhill risk-reward hole tempts golfers to attack the green, but seven bunkers, out-of-bounds and a sharply sloping surface reward restraint.

(3) Hole 12, Par 4 — “Gate Hill.” A narrow dogleg right with trouble along the right side. Positioning matters more than distance before the uphill approach.

(4) Hole 1, Par 4 — “Letchworth.” An elevated opening tee reveals the Hudson River and a downhill dogleg-right fairway before the approach climbs toward the green.

(5) Hole 3, Par 5 — “Shatemuc.” The entire hole unfolds below an extremely elevated tee. Bunkers and fescue pinch the fairway and create an important decision on the second shot.

(6) Hole 11, Par 4 — “The Timp.” One of the course’s largest elevation changes creates a spectacular downhill drive before the fairway climbs toward a tabletop green.

FOOD, DRINKS AND YEAR-ROUND GOLF
Patriot Lounge — Located at the course, this year-round venue offers full food and beverage service, four TrackMan simulators and axe throwing.

THE LINKS AT UNION VALE – DUTCHESS COUNTY, NY

LOCATION
LaGrangeville, NY. Approximately 20 minutes from Poughkeepsie, one hour from Waterbury, CT, and one hour from White Plains.

COURSE DESCRIPTION (PUBLIC)
The Links at Union Vale provides one of the Hudson Valley’s strongest combinations of quality, character and value. Designed by Stephen Kay and opened in 2000, the course was originally developed by a group of Irish golfers seeking to bring a links-style experience to the New York area.

The largely treeless layout features generous fairways, native fescue, pot bunkers and expansive views of the Hudson Hills and Catskill Mountains. Its recognizable white silo appears throughout the round, giving the course a distinctive sense of place.

GREEN FEES
2026 rates generally ranged from approximately $50–$123 for 18 holes, depending on the day, time and cart selection. Confirm current pricing with the course when booking.

NOTABLE HOLE
Hole 14, Par 5. The course’s signature white silo provides the target from the tee before golfers play alongside it toward a dogleg-left green. Its length, movement and memorable landmark make it one of Union Vale’s defining holes.

(2) Hole 13, Par 4. This short par 4 presents one of Union Vale’s most entertaining risk-reward decisions. Longer hitters can attempt to drive the green, but water along the left side and surrounding bunkers can quickly punish an inaccurate tee shot. Laying back provides a more comfortable angle, but where is the fun in that?

LOCAL FOOD AND DRINKS
(1) Harp & Eagle Pub – Located directly at the course. Stay after the round for satisfying pub food, drinks and a relaxed clubhouse atmosphere.

(2) Rossi Rosticceria Deli – Approximately 20 minutes away in Poughkeepsie. One of the area’s most celebrated Italian delis. Order the No. 4 with balsamic vinaigrette and pesto—you won’t be disappointed.

SEBONACK GOLF CLUB – SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY

LOCATION
Southampton, NY. Approximately 2 hours from NYC.

COURSE DESCRIPTION (PRIVATE)
Sebonack occupies an extraordinary stretch of land along Great Peconic Bay, neighboring Shinnecock Hills and National Golf Links of America.

Opened in 2006, the course is a rare collaboration between Jack Nicklaus and Tom Doak. Doak primarily shaped the routing and greens, while Nicklaus influenced much of the tee-to-green strategy. The result combines dramatic movement, strategic bunkering and expansive waterfront views.

Sebonack hosted the 2013 U.S. Women’s Open, won by Inbee Park during her historic run of three consecutive major victories. It remains one of the finest courses and complete golf experiences NYGOLFING has encountered.

NOTABLE HOLES
(1) Hole 18, Par 5. Sebonack’s defining finish combines the Great Peconic Bay shoreline, rolling fairway, massive clubhouse and American flag.

(2) Hole 12, Par 3. One of Long Island’s most memorable waterfront par 3s, with an exposed green and open-water backdrop creating equal parts beauty and intimidation.

(3) Hole 11, Par 4. A blind tee shot gives way to a dramatic downhill approach framed by beach, shoreline and open water.

(4) Hole 3, Par 4. This uphill par 4 provides a striking side view of Sebonack’s enormous clubhouse and prominent American flag.

CLUBHOUSE, FOOD AND DRINKS
(1) Self-Service Snack Shop – Located after Hole 4 and stocked with candy, drinks, cookies, Uncrustables and other mid-round favorites.

(2) Sebonack Bar – Ask to have your drink canned for the course, a memorable touch matching the creativity found throughout the property.

COPAKE COUNTRY CLUB – COLUMBIA COUNTY, NY

FALL HIDDEN GEM 🍁

LOCATION
Craryville, NY. Approximately 50 minutes north of Poughkeepsie, 1 hour and 20 minutes from Newburgh, and 2 hours and 10 minutes from NYC.

COURSE DESCRIPTION (PUBLIC)
Copake Country Club is the definition of a New York hidden gem: an excellent value, accessible for a day trip, and especially beautiful when fall color arrives in Columbia County.

Designed by Devereux Emmet, the course has the character and conditioning to feel far more exclusive than its public designation suggests. As one NYGOLFING follower perfectly commented, “This has private written all over it.”

Another unique Copake tradition comes during winter, when conditions permitting, golfers have been allowed to walk and play the course without a greens fee.

GREEN FEES
2026 rates ranged from $40 on weekdays to $65 on weekends for 18 holes, plus $25 per person for a cart. Weekend rates after 3 p.m. were $30. Confirm current pricing with the course.

NOTABLE HOLES
(1) Hole 3, Par 4. The approach provides one of Copake’s best fall scenes. Beyond the striped fairway and green, golfers can look left toward the uphill 14th hole surrounded by layers of red, orange, and yellow trees.

(2) Hole 13, Par 4. This 286-yard par 4 presents Copake’s ultimate risk-reward decision. The green is reachable from the tee—and you did not drive all the way to Copake to lay up.

(3) Hole 1, Par 4. A memorable opening hole that immediately validates the trip. The prominent American flag near the green completes one of the course’s signature scenes.

LOCAL FOOD AND DRINKS
(1) The Greens Restaurant – Located directly at the course. There is little reason to leave after the round, with satisfying food, quality drinks, and a relaxed clubhouse atmosphere.

(2) Rose Hill Farm – 35 minutes away in Red Hook, NY. An excellent fall setting featuring outdoor seating, local beer, cider and spirits, plus a rotating food menu.

LOCATION
Lake George, NY. Approximately 30 minutes from Saratoga Springs, one hour from Albany, and 3 hours and 30 minutes from NYC.

COURSE DESCRIPTION (PUBLIC)
Top of the World delivers one of the most breathtaking golf-course views in New York. Woven through the Adirondack Mountains high above Lake George, the course lives up to its name—especially when the surrounding landscape turns red, orange, and gold.

Fall rounds can get quite chilly at this elevation, so bring an extra layer. The crisp Adirondack air and foliage-filled scenery make it well worth it.

GREEN FEES
2026 rates ranged from $60–$65 during spring and fall and were $75 during summer for 18 holes with a cart. Summer twilight after 4 p.m. was $50. Confirm current pricing with the course.

NOTABLE HOLES
(1) Hole 10, Par 3. The course’s signature hole plays toward a green framed by an expansive view of Lake George. It is a demanding par 3, but the elevated setting and colorful mountain backdrop make it unforgettable.

(2) Hole 14, Par 5. Hole 10 may attract first-time visitors, but Hole 14 could be the one they remember most. What begins as a tree-lined par 5 opens dramatically to reveal the Adirondack Mountains and a downhill green surrounded by brilliant fall color. On a crisp autumn day, the scenery here is pretty awesome.

(3) Hole 3, Par 5. A narrow fairway runs between rows of colorful trees with the green visible in the distance. At nearly 600 yards, it is a picturesque but demanding early-round challenge.

LOCAL FOOD AND DRINKS
(1) Log Jam Restaurant – 10 minutes away in Lake George, NY. A cozy, Adirondack-style restaurant offering plenty of comforting lunch and dinner options after a chilly round.

(2) Adirondack Pub & Brewery – 8 minutes away in Lake George, NY. House-made brews and satisfying pub food make this an ideal post-round stop during fall golf season.

FALL EDITION 🍂

LOCATION
West Point, NY. Approximately 20 minutes south of Newburgh and 1 hour north of NYC.

COURSE DESCRIPTION (PUBLIC)
Home to the Army West Point golf teams, West Point is a true Hudson Valley mountain course. Robert Trent Jones carved the layout through steep, wooded terrain, creating elevated tee shots, significant changes in elevation and scenic holes that become especially striking when the surrounding foliage turns red, orange and gold.

The experience also incorporates American military history. Granite markers at each tee commemorate the nation’s conflicts, beginning with the American Revolution on Hole 1 and continuing through Iraq and Afghanistan on Holes 17 and 18.

GREEN FEES
2026 general-public rates were $89 Monday–Thursday and $106 Friday–Sunday for 18 holes with a cart. Twilight rates were $67 and $80, respectively. Military and other eligible players receive discounted pricing. Confirm current rates with the course.

NOTABLE HOLES
(1) Hole 15, Par 4. NYGOLFING’s favorite view on the course begins from an elevated tee overlooking a fairway framed by dense mountain foliage. After finishing the hole, the towering bridge leading toward Hole 16 provides an equally impressive view back across the landscape.

(2) Hole 1, Par 4. The opening tee shot descends from an elevated box into an inviting fairway. The challenge intensifies on the approach to a raised, back-to-front sloping green protected by bunkers across its front.

LOCAL FOOD AND DRINKS

LOCATION
Saratoga Springs, NY. Approximately 30 minutes south of Lake George, 35 minutes north of Albany, and 3 hours from NYC.

COURSE DESCRIPTION (PUBLIC)
Saratoga National delivers one of New York’s premier public golf experiences just minutes from downtown Saratoga Springs. Roger Rulewich’s championship layout winds through wetlands, ponds and native areas, demanding precise shots while remaining visually impressive throughout the round.

Fall may be the best time to visit. Colorful foliage surrounds the bentgrass fairways, crisp air replaces the summer heat, and Saratoga Springs settles into a quieter pace after racing season. The combination of golf, dining and one of New York’s most charming destinations makes Saratoga National worthy of an autumn day trip—or an entire weekend.

GREEN FEES
2026 fall rates ranged from $140–$250, while late-fall rates ranged from $120–$175. Daily fees include 18 holes, a GPS-equipped cart and practice-facility access. Dynamic pricing may apply; confirm current rates with the course.

NOTABLE HOLES
(1) Hole 15, Par 3. Saratoga National’s signature hole features an island green just off the shore of Lake Lonely. The shot must carry water to a wide green protected by two bunkers, with brilliant fall foliage completing one of the most memorable scenes in New York public golf.

(2) Hole 13, Par 5. At up to 590 yards, this strategic par 5 brings water into play along the left before finishing at a peninsula green. A rear bunker adds another challenge, while the right side provides the safest bailout.

LOCAL FOOD AND DRINKS
(1) Heritage at Saratoga National – Located directly at the course. Enjoy contemporary American cuisine, craft cocktails and an inviting bar and lounge. The patio overlooks the 18th hole, while stone fireplaces make it especially appealing on a crisp fall evening.

RED SKY GOLF CLUB – NORMAN COURSE – EAGLE COUNTY, COLORADO

FALL GOLF GETAWAY 🍁

LOCATION
Wolcott, CO. Approximately 2 hours west of Denver International Airport and 20 minutes from Vail/Eagle County Airport.

COURSE DESCRIPTION (PRIVATE - RESORT ACCESS)
Red Sky features two acclaimed mountain layouts: the Greg Norman and Tom Fazio courses. The more rugged Norman Course stretches to 7,580 yards through rocky outcroppings, deep gulches and high-country meadows.

Its elevation changes and panoramic views create a true wilderness golf experience. This may be putting it out there, but I enjoyed Red Sky even more than some extraordinary bucket list clubs closer to home. It was that special.

Late September through early October is the sweet spot. Golden aspens cover the mountains before golf winds down and the Vail Valley transitions into ski season. Returning one week after playing the Fazio Course produced a noticeable difference in foliage—the next two weeks or so are an ideal time to experience it.

STAY AND PLAY
Red Sky is private, but resort guests can gain access by staying at one of its 35 partner properties across Vail and Beaver Creek. Arrange lodging and golf through Red Sky’s Central Reservations Team or a participating hotel’s concierge.

For the complete experience, ask about Flex 36, which combines rounds on the Norman and Fazio courses within a four-day stay.

NOTABLE HOLES
(1) Hole 18, Par 5. My favorite hole on the Norman Course. The sweeping finale returns toward the rustic member clubhouse through a mountain corridor framed by bunkers, native vegetation and brilliant fall color. Water and sand tighten the approach, while the clubhouse provides a quintessential Colorado backdrop.

(2) Hole 16, Par 3. This dramatic downhill par 3 can stretch to 284 yards, although the elevation and thin mountain air shorten its effective distance. The suspended mountain view makes it a signature Greg Norman moment.

HANAH MOUNTAIN RESORT & COUNTRY CLUB – DELAWARE COUNTY, NY

FALL EDITION 🍂

LOCATION
Margaretville, NY. Approximately 1 hour southeast of Oneonta, 1.5 hours southwest of Albany, and 2.5 hours from NYC.

COURSE DESCRIPTION (PUBLIC)
Tucked into the Catskill Mountains, Hanah Mountain combines a demanding championship course with the warmth of an old-fashioned country retreat. The 7,195-yard layout provides plenty of challenge, while elevated tees reveal layers of mountain scenery—especially when the surrounding foliage turns red, orange, and gold.

An early fall tee time can bring cool air, morning mist and sunlight breaking over the Catskills. With lodging, dining and golf all on the property, Hanah is an easy place to slow down and make the round part of a cozy mountain getaway.

GREEN FEES
2026 rates were $50 midweek, $85 Friday–Sunday and holidays, and $55 after 3 p.m., with a cart included. Confirm current pricing with the course.

NOTABLE HOLES
(1) Hole 13, Par 4. Known as “The Terminator,” this potential round-killer features a pond dividing the fairway, additional water near the approach, and a sloped green protected by bunkers.

(2) Hole 17, Par 4. Hanah’s signature view stretches across the Catskills. Longer hitters can challenge the partially hidden green from the tee, creating a tempting risk-reward opportunity.

(3) Hole 16, Par 4. An elevated tee shot must find a narrow fairway before an uphill approach into a sloping green.

(4) Hole 12, Par 3. Flowers, water and bunkers frame this picturesque one-shot hole, but its length may require considerably more than a short iron.

STAY, FOOD AND DRINKS
(1) Hanah Mountain Resort – Turn the round into a Catskills escape with a one- or two-night Stay & Play package. After golf, settle into the country inn, enjoy dinner and a cocktail at the Horseshoe Bar, then wake up to a warm breakfast before heading back outside.

(2) Woodstock Brewing – Approximately 25 minutes away in Phoenicia, NY. A fitting stop for craft beer and a hearty post-round meal in the mountains.
