Beloved! This is a book that holds a lot of meaning to me, and is one of my favorites I have ever read. For one of my classes, I was tasked with redesigning a book cover in 3 different ways to communicate its ideas. Here are my 3 alternative covers for Beloved by Toni Morrison.

Beware of bark! I’ve been trying to shy away from my usual pink color palates, but I couldn’t resist on this one. I used a bunch of teeth imagery, both human and dog to create this composition. I was trying to play with maybe the dangerous part of something isn’t the immediately scary looking thing on the outside. I’m not too sure, I do know for a fact that I’m super happy with this one!

I learned a lot about my own process while making this design, and it has a special place in my heart because of that. I recently got some feedback from a coworker about trying to utilize negative space more, and I think that his feedback shifted something for me. This piece was originally super busy and noisy taking up the entire screen until I remember his words. I tweaked and played with everything until I settled on this final version! I’m super proud and happy with myself that I went outside of my comfort zone and made something I’m even happier with!

Self portrait. Not much to say, I really like the direction I took with this, it sparked a lot of new ideas!

Ram Dass poster!!!

I’ve been in kinda a rut for personal projects, so I’m trying to challenge myself to make quick quote based typographical posters of stuff that hits for me. This is the first I’ve made! Shout out Ram Dass, he’s a gold mine of really great food for thought.

Unicorns are real! This entire piece is kind of a huge experiment where I learned a couple new techniques and played with new plug ins I got. I’ve been seeing the bit map mosaic stuff and wanted to try it out. I also just got 2 @texturelabs plug ins that really have been a lot of fun to play with. Hope yall like

I took design research last quarter and we had a week that was based around Google earth and finding inspiration from there. I found some cool spots while searching through the streets of japan, Hawaii, and San Francisco and collaged them into this piece! I’m not sure if I like slide one or two better tho :P

This is a poster I made a while ago showcasing a local Chicago venue @bricktownchicago for fun! I used a photo I took of some skaters in the bowl at the venue and tried to go pretty far with the editing. I had a lot of fun with this one, and I want to try making more fan posters for different local DIY venues! by @nyhan_digital

A little experimental edit I did some iterations on. Swipe to see how compressed and gritty I pushed this one! I love seeing the way a piece evolves, and I think it was important that I saved the different steps on this one. Yes, they are pretty similar looking, each individual piece really hits for me.

Holy Gardener! I had so much fun working on this project with the excellent @drewm_donde directing. I haven’t had the chance to grip in a hot minute so it was awesome going back to my G&E roots!
