Gathering samples for a natural dyeing workshop I’m teaching @parsonsschoolofdesign tomorrow 🙌

What a day! Thank you to @newyorkfibershed , NYFIC grant awardee @nytextilelab and the Carbon Farm Network for organizing this year’s Carbon Farm Tour and including NYFIC in the conversations.

It was great to hear @StephanieSealBrown and Melissa Conroy of @cornell.design, along with Laura Sansone of NY Textile Lab and Tameka Peoples of @Seed2Shirt, share how they put NYFIC grants to work.

We also really enjoyed hearing from Carbon Farm Planner @ashlynkohler about regenerative land management practices and learning from all of the speakers who shared their expertise throughout the day, including @nobletownfiberworks, @melissaconroydraws, and @paflaxproject.

A special thank you to Leda and Steve of @farawayfarmalpacas for welcoming us to their farm and giving us such an informative tour!

What an incredible day spent with amazing people for our 7th Annual Carbon Farm Tour!

Many thanks to @farawayfarmalpacas for hosting us at their stunning farm. Thank you to all our speakers @paflaxproject, @seed2shirt @nobletownfiberworks @melissaconroydraws @nyfic_official @ashlynkohler

A great day spent honoring systems of reciprocity for our clothing and textiles where we give back to the fiber generating land through the practice of carbon sequestration.

We engaged in important discussions about bioregional economics and the imperative to adjust the growth and scale of our clothing and textile systems, giving preference to cooperative, distributed and collaborative models.

Gratitude to all the attendees and looking forward to the next gathering!

Last week, we visited Faraway Farm Alpacas in preparation for the Carbon Farm Tour. We can’t wait to share this beautiful place with you🦙🌱

Leda and Steve are committed to keeping a sustainable working farm, caring for the land, their Huacaya alpacas, and Icelandic horses. It’s also home to an award-winning compost system and an on-site yarn shop.

And getting there is part of the experience! It’s a peaceful train ride north from NYC to Croton-Harmon Station to the farm.

When you purchase from us, you’re helping small growers in our region implement practices on their farms that are optimized to store carbon in the soil.

We’re at the beautiful @stonebarns selling our gorgeous Climate Beneficial Verified products and promoting our federally funded Wool Quality Improvement program that we’re overseeing here in NYS with @fibershed_ and @nyfibershed

Come by and support our regional farm partners and learn how we’re growing a distributed, bioregional economic model for our textiles here in NYS.

We work with other small brands in a cooperative to purchase fiber. By working together, we distribute the cost and share the risk of making regional yarn. A portion of our membership fee puts resources back into Carbon Farm Planning. This is a slow growth, commons approach to building our clothing and textile systems.
