CDS’ undergraduate program recently teamed up with the NYU Wasserman Center for Career Development for a Job Search Workshop. 🔎

Wasserman Assistant Director of Undergraduate Career Development Jason Walls covered finding internships and full-time jobs across industries, building a job search plan, approaching applications, and using Wasserman’s career resources.

AI agents don’t just adapt to the world; the world can adapt to them.

At a TaD Seminar, University of Chicago Booth Assistant Professor of Applied AI Kawin Ethayarajh discussed “mecha-nudges”: subtle changes in decision environments that systematically influence AI agents without affecting humans.

Drawing on evidence from the Etsy marketplace and the OpenAI/Hugging Face incident, Ethayarajh argued that these changes are already influencing AI agents at a global scale.

🤝 CDS recently hosted the AI Mentorship (AIM) at Meta Program Forum, where PhD students learned about opportunities to conduct AI research co-advised by their PhD advisor and a Meta mentor.

NYU is proud to be one of five AIM partner universities. The program offers paid, 12-month visiting researcher positions extendable up to 24 months, with students working part-time during the academic year and full-time over the summer.

Participants are matched with Meta researchers whose work aligns with their interests, and their projects may contribute to their PhD dissertations.

Coinbase zoomed in to CDS! 🚀

Students recently gathered in the CDS Open Space to hear from Coinbase Acceleration Program Manager Sierra Quirós and Emerging Talent Recruiters Linnea Levy, Rebhi Oweis, Kaitlyn Wehner, and Kelsey Ching.

The team walked through Coinbase’s internship program and its opportunities for 2027, then shared advice on how to land a Coinbase internship.

The session closed with a Q&A, where students asked questions of their own.

CDS MS students recently got hands-on practice with one of the less formal parts of a job search: networking.

At “How to Coffee Chat and Other Networking Advice,” students rotated through small-group conversations with CDS alumni, practiced elevator pitches, asked career questions, and met fellow students.

Thanks to the eight CDS alumni who joined us: Carina Sun, Dhruv Saxena, Vaarun Muthappan, Peter Zhong, Akash Kadel, Abhinav Batra, Aryan Jain, and Oona Wood.

Hosted by CDS Admissions Ambassadors Mehul Goel and Narayani Sai Pemmaraju.

The session ended with open networking and networking bingo. ☕

Congratulations to two members of the CDS community named 2026 Schmidt Sciences AI2050 Fellows! 🎉

🏆 CDS Assistant Professor of Computer Science, Engineering, and Data Science Juan Carlos Perdomo

🏆 CDS-affiliated Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Biology Romain Lopez

Perdomo’s project will develop tools to help public institutions use AI to allocate limited resources fairly and effectively, including medical screening, tutoring, and job training. Working with government partners, the project will put these tools into practice.

Lopez’s project will develop AI systems that learn from experimental results to choose which cell-engineering experiments to run next. The team will test the approach by engineering improved therapeutic T cells, with the aim of helping immune cells fight cancer and autoimmune disease.

Eight employers came to CDS on September 22 to meet our graduate students!

The Fall 2026 CDS Grad Career Fair brought representatives from Revelio Labs, the MTA, Bertelsmann, Haymarket Media, BNP Paribas, Embarcadero Labs, Vanguard, and URBN.

Students talked with recruiters about data science roles in transit, finance, media, and retail.

CDS Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Data Science Pratyusha Sharma, who joined NYU this fall, told MS Admissions Ambassador Mehul Goel what she wants from students: "an open mind, willingness to learn, and willingness to put in some work."

Shortcuts, she said, don't pay off in the end.

Part of her class will cover open problems in the field, and she hopes students will take one on for their final project.
