"Being at the center of the world, where so many things are happening at once, is an incredible experience that makes every day more exciting than the last."

Master of Urban Planning student Maria Sarria is spending the summer as a planning and special projects fellow at the Times Square Alliance, working on a research project on pedestrian plazas in the Times Square District. She notes that urban design projects like this must prioritize walkability, accessibility, climate threats, while balancing the needs of street vendors, tourists, and locals alike.

In the latest installment of Wagner's Roundtable with the Dean series, Dean Trottenberg sat down with Semina Kosti-Stavri, Co-Chair of the Wagner International Student Society (WISS), and a group of students representing an array of global policy interests. The discussion centered on the evolving landscape of public service education and the role that international perspectives play in shaping Wagner’s curriculum.

The group delved into the frontiers of technology, sustainability, and governance, specifically focusing on the role of AI in the public sector. Dean Trottenberg sought input from the international student community on key models from their home countries, ranging from climate policy to AI regulation, that could enhance Wagner’s coursework. Students also had the opportunity to ask Dean Trottenberg questions in an open Q&A, sparking a truly collaborative discussion on how the “Wagner way” of leadership translates across borders.
