The Real Truth #RedZone

OU Advocates is the 24/7/365 helpline for OU students, staff, and faculty who have experienced dating/domestic violence, sexual assault, harassment, and/or stalking. Our services are completely free and confidential. Reporting is not required to receive support from OU Advocates.

The Red Zone is the period of time between when university classes start (Aug) up until fall break (Nov) when students are at higher risk of becoming victims of violence. (For students who live on campus, it begins at move-in.)

It’s on us to step in and speak up when we see harmful behaviors among our peers. We build our culture, and we set the tone for what the “norm” is. Let’s be active bystanders, and set the norm to not tolerate harm of any kind, and support and believe those who have been harmed. 💜

See harmful behavior? 👀 Use the 3D’s to step in and speak out! 🗣️ It’s on us to intervene when we think someone might be in an unsafe situation. 🫵

1) BE DIRECT—Approach the perpetrator and call them out for being harmful, or approach the victim and ask them if they want help.

2) DISTRACT TO REDIRECT— Create a shift in the situation to redirect the perpetrator or victim, and separate them.

3) DELEGATE FOR HELP— Ask a friend, family member, or person of authority to intervene. Especially if it’s not a safe situation for you, or if you’re unsure about how to intervene!

#Moderation is the quality of being reasonable and avoiding extremes and excess. ❌ When we talk about moderating alcohol and other substances, we mean being reasonable in your consumption of them! ⚠️ This means drinking alcohol or using other substances:
✅ Legally (21+)
✅ Safely (not while driving; not mixing substances; not while taking conflicting medications; not consuming illegal substances; etc.)
✅ Responsibly (staying aware of how your body feels; understanding and monitoring your BAC; and eating foods and drinking water consistently while consuming substances)

Consent is MANDATORY. Sexual activity without consent is assault. You MUST have consent, from everyone involved, each and every time you engage in sexual activities.

Solo bike rides are a great way to respect others’ boundaries when nobody else wants to bike with you. 🙂‍↕️👍
