Just finished the “Race to the Shore” Bike MS 150 this past weekend 🚴🏾‍♂️ and I want to talk about why this ride matters to me as a neurosurgeon.
Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the insulation around nerves in the brain, eyes, and spinal cord. In my clinic, it can show up as a spinal cord lesion that looks like a tumor on MRI, or alongside spinal compression, which makes it hard to tell which problem is causing the symptoms.
Surgery doesn’t treat MS. Research does, and it has transformed MS care over the last 20 years. That’s what ride MS funds.

The verse that always comes to mind during these high-risk challenging cases is Isaiah 32:27.
