Suburban Cook County voters can cast an early ballot for the 2026 Gubernatorial Election now through Nov. 2 at Village Hall, 123 Madison St. Early voting hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays. Grace-period registration is also available during early voting hours for those individuals who missed the registration deadline. Valid identification is required to register during the grace period, and a vote must be cast immediately after registration. The Civic Involvement Commission and Village Clerk’s Office and hosted a special event on Wednesday evening to celebrate the dedicated service of Oak Park’s advisory board, commission and committee members. Held at Albion Oak Park, the celebration was an expression of gratitude for the leadership, time and commitment to civic engagement given by so many community members.

Construction work is forging ahead along Oak Park Avenue as crews are busy making significant streetscaping improvements after replacing 100-year-old water and sewer infrastructure. The Renew the Avenue project is still on target to be substantially completed in late November.

Don’t miss the Fall Family Fun event this Saturday, Oct. 17 Families with young children are invited to participate in a costume parade around Scoville Park led by Village President Vicki Scaman starting at 10 a.m. Following the costume parade, head into the Oak Park Public Library to explore the Early Childhood Resource Fair (first floor) and the Early Learning Program Meet & Greet (upstairs in the Veterans Room) from 10 a.m. to noon. The Village’s next electronic recycling drop-off event is this Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Public Works Center, 201 South Blvd. Due to strict regulations on collecting and processing these materials, residents are required to register for a time slot between 9 a.m. and noon and identify their electronic waste items in advance. Sign up for a time slot at oak-park.us/ewaste26. There is a limit of 7 items per household, and within that there is a limit of two televisions and/or computer monitors.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: Crews are continuing to install brick pavers along Oak Park Avenue as the construction project pushes ahead. Note that intersection of Oak Park Avenue and Pleasant Street will be closed to vehicle traffic starting Monday for about four days. The multi-day closure will allow for a special asphalt and a rubber-like base to be poured and bricks laid immediately afterward, helping ensure better long-term wear of brick pavers at an intersection where many turns are made. The project remains on target to wrap up next month!

The Village’s Plan Commission will hold a public hearing as it considers proposed changes to Oak Park’s zoning code from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8 in the auditorium at Oak Park and River Forest High School. Outlined as part of the Shape Oak Park initiative, these proposed amendments are intended to address and incentivize missing middle housing types. All interested persons will be given an opportunity to be heard at the public hearing. The Plan Commission may continue the hearing to another date without further notice by public announcement at the hearing setting forth the time and place thereof.
