Haven’t posted in forever, but I think today is a good day to. I’ll start by saying this. I’ve always had complicated feelings for Seb. I had never really liked him when he was at Ferrari, as nice a guy as he is. And when he announced his retirement, I really didn’t feel much. But today, I realize how much I am going to miss this man. The fight he has shown in his last few races this season has been inspirational. He has shown a spark that I haven’t seen from him in a long time. I realize that this was the Sebastian Vettel that everyone wanted to see all these years. And this is how I will remember him. I just wish I had followed what he said back in 2013: “We have to remember these days. Because there's no guarantee that they'll last forever! Enjoy them as long as they last.” Those holds true especially today. Danke Seb.

Inspired by my new mate @alpineunlimited, I’ve decided to do a post on @alpinef1team, or Team Enstone, or whatever you choose to call them.

This is a team that I’ve desperately wanted to see do well since they came back as Renault. Whether it be when they were with @hulkhulkenberg, @carlossainz55, @danielricciardo, and now @fernandoalo_oficial, I have always wanted to see them succeed. But they never have. But here’s why I have hope.

As much of a character Cyril Abiteboul is, he was not a great leader by any means. The man never blamed himself for any of their faults! That’s crappy leadership right there. And when Renault rightfully gave him the sack, I was very hopeful that they would start to do well.

2021 was a wash, as they were basically stuck with their car from the year before. While they did have some GREAT results, like @estebanocon winning at Hungary, or, one of my personal favorite moments of the season, Fernando getting a podium, the car did not have great pace.

This year though, the car seems to have much greater potential. Rather unfortunately, it’s been very hit or miss, in both pace and reliability. But this is a car that has potential. Fernando could have been in pole contention in Australia had his five pound part not broken. It’s there. And with a better leadership structure, now led by Otmar Szafnauer, I see hope in them becoming a contender in the future. And they hopefully give Fernando one last chance to get that third title.

May El Plan come to fruition.

This is an Oasis focused account on the musical side, but I have to make an exception for this one post. As many of us has just heard, Taylor Hawkins, legendary drummer of the Foo Fighters, has passed away at age 50.

I honestly am lost for words. I can not believe that a man who had so much life can pass away so soon. Even if I haven’t listened extensively to the Foo Fighters, Taylor always captured my attention, because he was just so damn charismatic. He was an amazing performer, let alone a drummer. And to add, he was a pretty damn good singer too.

I always felt the belief that Taylor should be the only person allowed to sing Freddie Mercury’s parts to Under Pressure. Not only was he the only person that didn’t make me cringe when singing something Freddie Mercury sung, he was the one person that made me enjoy listening to another person sign what he sang. Just amazing.

I always imagined that if I formed a band with my best friend, who is an ardent Queen fan, as I also am, that in the case we got famous, we would ask Taylor to come perform Under Pressure with us. Sadly, that chance will never come.

He was also an ardent admirer of Liam Gallagher, as was Liam. I so would’ve dearly loved to see Liam perform with the Foo Fighters with Taylor on the drums. I can not imagine how epic that would’ve been.

If you guys have the chance to, go listen to a Dennis Wilson song called Holy Man. Taylor completed the vocals that Dennis never completed, and I can not think of a better song to listen to right now, other than his covers of Under Pressure, to remember him by.

Rest in rock and roll heaven Taylor Hawkins. I’m pretty sure someone needs a drummer in their all star band there.

To start off, I’m not a fan of @nicorosberg. As a @lewishamilton fan, I admit, I’m still pretty bitter about 2016. But regardless of this, this man needs to be in the commentary box more often.

When I saw that he was going to commentate last years Hungarian Grand Prix, my initial reaction was, “He’s just going to be bitter.” But boy, was I wrong.

I knew he was an incredible commentator when during qualifying he described how much time a lock up by @georgerussell63 would cost him. He said two tenths. When the sector time showed up, he was about two tenths off his best in the first sector. I couldn’t believe how accurate he was with his analysis, just by watching.

Through the rest of the weekend, his analysis was all kinds of insightful and fun. I was being thrown all of this information by him, and I absolutist loved it!

To this day, that’s the only time he has commentated during a race so far. @jensonbutton has been in a few times, but his analysis is very basic compared to Nico’s. As much as I love @martinbrundlef1 as a commentator, we need to see Nico in the booth more. We will all be better for it as viewers.

Here’s my @themightyi feature of the day. My absolute favorite Noel song is Flying on the Ground. I thought that when We’re on Our Way came out that that was a great song. But then Noel came up with this gem (not Archer) of a song.

After my first listen, I couldn’t shake off the feeling that this was a great song. And then I listen again, than again, and again. I just couldn’t stop listening to it. It was such a great, catchy song. It felt like I was hearing Oasis all over again!

Noel had deviated from the traditional Oasis sound gradually, culminating with Who Built the Moon. But this song just takes me back. The utter catchiness of it. The use of the classic Noel chords, and just, the uplifting nature of the song.

It’s absolutely my favorite Noel Gallagher song, and one of my favorite songs of all time. I like the solo work of @liamgallagher more these days, but this one takes the cake. Sorry Liam, but it’s hard for anyone to beat this Gem of a song.

Also, the video stars Matt Smith, my favorite Doctor. So that always helps. 😉

As apparent in my post about the Abu Dhabi fiasco, I am still infuriated by the actions of one Michael Masi. In writing a post about him, I was going to use a picture of Charlie Whiting, as I could not bear to put a picture of an imbecile like Michael Masi on my page, but I found this wonderful picture. Taken just hours before Charlie passed away, it’s a perfect representation of the two opposing figureheads of F1. Michael Masi, in shades, not smiling, representing the tyrannical and incompetent way in which he handled F1, while Charlie is beaming with a wide smile, with Sebastian Vettel smiling alongside him. It’s a picture that eerily represents who was good, and who was evil.
Now, I will have to admit, as a Lewis Hamilton fan, I am more hurt by Masi’s actions than fans of other drivers. But Abu Dhabi most certainly was not the only occasion in which this idiot displayed sheer incompetence. There are several examples of such occurrences.
I think we’ve all noticed an increase in red-flagged races in recent times. I looked into some data, and I found that in the three years Masi was at the helm, 9 races were red flagged. In the years where Charlie was in charge, you had to go back until the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix until you reached the same amount of red-flagged races. That’s about a span of 8 years for 9 races. Masi had 9 within a 2 year span from 2020-2021, with 2019 being the only exception. Now, not all of them were caused by race direction circumstances. Some were weather, and some were because of mechanical breakdowns leading to massive accidents. But you do have to question why the number of red-flags increased so much in the years Masi was in the steward’s office. And I think he’s partly to blame for it. You can’t just go from having a red flag being a rarity to a rather common occurrence through sheer coincidences. I most definitely think that his incompetence has a part in causing this increase.
Second, his refusal to clarify rules on hard racing shows how he just had no real guts to do anything. Drivers kept asking for clarification, and he gave them none. He could’ve turned F1 into NASCAR! And it sort of was turning into NASCAR towards the end. by @oasisf1

One of my favorite Oasis songs, and possibly my favorite @liamgallagher written song, is Songbird.
Now, I’m continuously annoyed by the fact that every time I try to search for Songbird, the Fleetwood Mac song pops up. Now, no disrespect to Fleetwood Mac. They did write one of the most iconic F1 intro songs with The Chain after all. I’ve never heard their Songbird, but there is no way on earth their version is as good as Liam’s.
People were initially alarmed by how soft and beautiful this song was, considering it was written by Liam. Now, I was surprised at first too in my early days of being an Oasis fan. But the more I got to know about Liam, the more it made more sense that he would write a song like this. He genuinely has a very soft side. And in my opinion, he just doesn’t show it as often to maintain his cool image. I think that he’s even more cooler now that I know he has a soft side to him. That’s what makes him so genuine and relatable. He’s not soft all the time, but when he is, it’s absolutely heartwarming to see.
It’s an absolutely beautiful song. “Lovely” would be the word to describe it. It simply is just a lovely song. It’s the highlight of what is otherwise and absolutely abysmal album in Heathen Chemistry. I feel that this is the only truly great song on that album. And not because it’s better than all the rather substandard tracks on the album, but simply because it’s a great song. The Hindu Times is OK, and so is Little by Little. I personally think Stop Crying Your Heart Out is overrated. It’s unusually commercial and poppy for an Oasis song. But Songbird, it’s just a perfect song.
It’s a shame he doesn’t sing this song anymore live. Shame that he had to divorce his his wife. I feel that this could be just as meaningful to his fiancé, Debbie, now. She’s definitely his Songbird now!

Here’s is my @carlossainz55 appreciation post. As a McLaren fan, I owe a permanent debt to this man. Before he arrived at McLaren, I didn’t think much of him. I knew he was a very good driver, but I wasn’t a big fan of him by any means. When he signed to McLaren, I was like, “Oh, OK. Good for him.” And then he started at McLaren, and it all changed. He is one of the people that started what I like to call the “McLaren Revival.”
Ever since I started watching F1 in 2014, McLaren had been in a slump. They only scored two podiums, both at Australia that year, with @jensonbutton scoring one after @danielricciardo was disqualified. McLaren has always been my favorite team, as Ayrton Senna won all of his championships with them. They were the first team I knew because of that. And I’m 2018, they were a joke. A complete and utter joke. It hurt to see my favorite team be so utterly pathetic. And then Carlos and @landonorris came around.
Seeing the results improve was great, but seeing how happy Carlos and Lando were together was heartwarming. After all the talk of team drama for what seemed like forever, they were a breath of fresh air. And I never knew Carlos had such a bright personality like the one we see now. I always delighted at him finishing best of the rest and singing “Smooth Operator” on the dodgy music radio. Seeing McLaren out front again was great, and a big part of the reason was him being on the team.
When he got his first podium at Brazil, the first for McLaren since Australia, and ironically because of a penalty for @lewishamilton, I was lost for words. Seeing my favorite team get a podium after all these years, it is something with which I can’t describe the emotions for with words.
When he left for Ferrari, I was heartbroken. As happy as I am for him, it just doesn’t feel right to see him in a car that isn’t a McLaren. No matter how much success he has with Ferrari I will always see him as one of the guys that started the McLaren Revival, and I will always be grateful for that. I just wish he was still there.

Since this is 50% an account on Oasis, I might as well do a breakdown on what possibly may be my favorite Oasis song, “Some Might Say.”

The initial demo done solely with Noel Gallagher on guitar and vocals at a sound check is almost nearly my favorite version of the song. This version presents a very softened take on the song, feeling more like a soft anthem that tells us that things will get better as time goes on. It’s such a beautiful version of the song in that I feel like a music video with simple flip book style animation would fit in nicely, something that can’t be said for any other Oasis song.

The second version of the song, the “full” demo version of the song done on the Verve’s gear in Wales by Noel, is my least favorite version of the song, if such a thing could exist. It’s a slower, and in Noel own words, “sleazier” version of the song. Because of its slow and dirty nature, it’s not a version of the song I’m not as fond of as the others, as I feel that this is a song that should communicate more of a feeling of pure hope and happiness, not one of sleaziness. Nevertheless, as with anything by Oasis from this era, it is a quality version of the song.

The final, released version of the song with the full band and Liam on vocals is one of the best productions in Oasis’ history. With the ferocious launch of the guitar in the intro, one figures this is going to be a true banger. With more guitars joining in to form an explosive intro, Liam then enters with his powerful and even more ferocious vocals. Liam’s vocals makes the song have a more aggressive tone then the initial solo demo of the song, but a more hopeful one nonetheless. It’s like he’s telling people to get off their bottoms and look forward to another day, as better days are coming. It’s like he’s demanding people to cheer up and stop being miserable. And it is awesome! He gives off so much optimism and hope with his delivery, while simultaneously being snarling and somewhat vindictive, which is only something Liam could do. A true showcase of Liam’s talent, and one that makes it possibly my favorite Oasis song.

Continuing on with my reference to “Listen Up” on my post about Noel Gallagher, here’s my analysis for the two versions of “Listen Up”: The Oasis version with Liam on lead vocals, and the solo acoustic version with Noel on vocals. Both versions of the song exudes profound emotion and meaning, but very different ones.

The original version with Liam singing communicates a feeling of anguish. With Liam’s powerful and snarling vocals, he provides a more angry and anguished take on the lyrics. A key theme of the song is not minding being on their own. Liam sings this as though he is succumbing to the fact that he is going to be alone, with his anger and resentment towards this being shown. Noel communicates this sentiment very differently in his version of the song.

In Noel’s acoustic version of the song performed for the BBC in 2015, he provides a more nuanced and reflective version of the song through his singing. Unlike Liam’s signature powerful singing style, Noel sings this song with a more softer, reflective tone. With this, the meaning of the song he gives off is one of acceptance and self realization, that maybe he really doesn’t mind being on his own after all these years. When thinking about the breakup of Oasis, this idea becomes more impactful, as after all the years of being with Liam, and then splitting with him both professionally and personally, he comes to realize that being on his own is better. And with his reflective vocal take on the song, this is idea is communicated to the listeners perfectly.

Both versions are wonderful in their own ways. It is just mind-blowing to see how different the themes communicated in this one song can be with a difference of a brother.

Here’s my breakdown of the Bahrain Grand Prix

The battle at the front was amazing. Some class overtaking from both @maxverstappen1 and @charles_leclerc. Those two haven’t been the best at having clean battles, but they produced a great battle for us on Sunday. It shows that these new regulations are working in terms of making overtaking easier, because I can’t see this type of battle happening at this track in the last few years.

To expand on the topic of following, it really seemed to have been improved from the past whatever years or so. The cars were noticeably able to follow each other more closely. In terms of overtaking though, many people say they didn’t see that much of an improvement, but I don’t think the point of the regulations was to increase overtaking significantly. It was to make overtaking actually possible. In some instances, overtaking is next to impossible. For example, during the Italian and Russian Grand Prix’s when the McLarens were out front, that was a result of the dirty air making overtaking next to impossible unless there was a discernible difference in pace. As much of a McLaren fan I am, that kind of defense probably would not have been possible this year, as cars can actually follow each other close enough to the point where when they reach a straight leading to an overtaking hotspot, they can take full advantage of using the slipstream and DRS to try to pass the car in front.

Haas, namely @kevinmagnussen, was flawless on Sunday. If he keeps up performances like this, @mickschumacher is going to have to step up his game, because he was whooped by K-Mag. He may have had some damage apparently after his collision with @estebanocon, but he was throughly outclassed by K-Mag throughout the entire weekend. It shows how much having a really good driver makes a difference for a team, as if Mazepin was still there, they would’ve looked like a team on the verge of points at best. I really hope Mick steps up his game, because if he doesn’t, he may be in real danger of losing his seat and reputation. And nobody with a heart wants to see that happen to him.

Since I’ve spoken about the singing of @liamgallagher, I thought I’d talk about Noel Gallagher’s vocals too. He’s someone that has seen a massive improvement in his voice over the years. While he always has had a decent voice, there was a distinct whine to his voice that could be particularly heard in his live performances in the era where Bonehead and Guigsy were present. He did have some standout vocal performances on studio tracks though, with my two favorites being “Don’t Look Back in Anger” and the acoustic demo version of “Some Might Say,” which is one of my favorite bits of music I’ve ever heard done by Oasis. His voice did change noticeably around the time Gem Archer and Andy Bell joined the band, but where I see a key shift in his voice is around the time of Don’t Believe the Truth. That’s when I think Noel started to have the voice he currently has today. One with control yet effortless power. I’m not sure if he received vocal coaching or anything of that sort. All I know is that it’s still a very natural and pure voice, and one that people wish they had. Some of his standout vocals from this era of his voice in my opinion are “Falling Down” and his “unplugged” version of “Listen Up” from 2015. That may be the one song he has done that Liam originally sang that either matches or at least slightly better Liam’s take on the song. Overall, while Noel has always had a talent for singing, his improvement over the years has been massive. I can’t wait for his next album to be out.
