MUHORONI • Sugarcane planting is part of the agricultural cycle in Muhoroni. Tractors prepare the fields, and farmers begin another season of work. For many households, the land remains an important source of livelihood. These images document the work as it happens, before the crop grows and the next stage of the season begins.

The CANECARTERGALLERY narrative.

The work continues through the planting season. Machinery, labour, and the preparation of the fields are all part of the process. Behind the activity are farmers managing their land and planning for the months ahead. This is a look at the everyday work that supports sugarcane production in the sugar belt.

Beyond the fields, the town carries its own rhythm. Roads, shops, familiar faces, and everyday conversations—all part of a place shaped by the cane. This is the sugar belt: not just where sugarcane grows, but where people build their lives around it.

Muhoroni’s town centre reflects the everyday life of a community shaped by agriculture. Shops, roads, businesses, and people going about their routines form part of the wider picture. Beyond the fields, this is where the economic and social life of the town continues.

There is a certain rhythm to a sugarcane town. The fields stretch beyond the roads, tractors move through the soil, and the day begins with the promise of work. But the story of the sugar belt is not only found in the farms. It is also in the town center, where people pass through, businesses open, and life continues between one harvest and the next.

The tractor is more than a machine in this landscape. It is part of the process that keeps the town moving. Behind it are the people who plant, wait, work, and hope. And beyond the fields, the town carries its own rhythm—small businesses, familiar streets, everyday conversations, and the quiet movement of people making a living.
