This room's focus is tenderness and turmoil, being haunted and hunted, and naming the damage, how it shapes Black men and shows up.

DAMAGE - ROOM 1: MAY I CRY?

How many times did you hear, or were you told: 'don't cry', 'boys don't cry,'? How many ways did that shape you, and show you to suppress tears? To: 'man up'...

In this room, artist @obbiewest explores turmoil and tenderness, being haunted and hunted by an America that will not heed its own history, or even fully acknowledge it. Into this room, Black men must name the harm, the pain, and how it shapes them, and issue a call to engage their brothas. This is that call, that invitation with this poem as a question:- MAY I CRY?

It's communal care. It's healing, It's process and practice.

This was motivated by a poem I wrote yesterday where I mentioned my disdain for pedophilia, and was reminded that some people don't believe advocacy and sexual energy can coexist.

Here's permission to be YOU while feeling free to stand for something. Oftentimes we avoid certain types of advocacy, spiritual or religious practices, because we're afraid of how other HEALTHY aspects of our lives will be scrutinized. EFF THAT!!! STAND FOR SOMETHING and feel free to use your life to demonstrate how that SOMETHING should look.

There's something about our minds' navigation that always calculates towards worst case; the most debasing outcome. A million possibilities and our mind chooses the one that feels like a heart puncture.

Be intentional about understanding that your assumptions aren't automatically reality. They're options and all of those options don't have to be destructive.

A great question to ask yourself is, "What is the basis for the reason I just conjured?" If there's none, your mind just may be at it again. GRR!!!) by @obbiewest
