With 1 in 6 primary school students being obese, I’m ensuring that the Food For Learning campaign makes considerations for the quality of food. Before the end of my term in office, I will look for opportunities to have more meetings with MPs and councillors to discuss what they have in mind relating to UFSM.Together, we can make change. by @obed_euypuk

2 for 2!!My second time speaking in UK Parliament! On Friday 17th November, I represented over 74,000 young people in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, in House of Commons. This sitting was regarding the Food For Learning Bill which calls for Universal Free School Meals. We debated on which of the 5 topics should be the focus for this bill; Holiday Hunger, Quality of Food, Standardisation, Finance and Funding, and Additional Pricing.I spoke about Standardisation which I believed was the best choice for the Bill.Although Finance and Funding won, I will knuckle down on making this Bill the best it can be and providing Free School Meals for all secondary and primary school children, up and down the country.Overall, I would like to thank The British Youth Council for this opportunity and I look forward to making more change until the end of my time in office by @obed_euypuk

Speaking at speaker’s house ✅🌉 How can we #bridge the gap between young people and MP’s??Last Wednesday I was asked to speak at speaker’s house for the Patchwork Foundation MP of The Year Awards, on my experience as a #patchwork intern! I answered the question; what can politicians do to engage young people in the political process 🤨I spoke about:The importance of Youth Parliament in the lives of #young people 👨‍💼The need for more focus groups and round tables 🪑🪑And higher participation from senior ministers at Youth APPG 📈📈All important things to note as young people are feeling a plateau in their political engagement; we want to engage but we aren’t given sufficient access to 👎🏾Overall, it was great to see so many winners from different categories and speak to different MP’s about their journey and implementing the 3 solutions I spoke up into legislation. What do you guys think MP’s should do to engage young people? (leave your answer in the comments) 🎙️💬 by @obed_euypuk

This week, I was fortunate enough to have an internship at the Houses of Parliament, shadowing my local MP, Matthew Pennycook.I participated in drafting constituent responses, sitting in on meetings, and viewing proceedings in the House of Commons.I saw influential MPs such as; Liz Truss, Ed Miliband, Nadhim Zahawi, David Lammy, Sajid Javid, Thérèse Coffey, and Suella Braverman. It was great to get a glimpse into the life of an MP and to see how busy they are!I thoroughly enjoyed my time and hopefully I will also be an MP in the future. by @obed_euypuk

Today I had a meeting with Anthony Okereke and Councillor Matt Morrow to discuss the Free School Meals campaign by The British Youth Council and to report back findings of the focus groups I posted last week. Very productive meeting with both sides being able to come to a conclusion for bettering youth services. I am excited to get this on track and push for universal free school meals. Young voices WILL be heard - that’s my guarantee. by @obed_euypuk

This week, I hosted several focus groups with young people in my borough in order to inform the Greenwich Young People's Council of what young people think are the issues which most affect them and their opinion and solutionsHere's what I've learnt:🍽 FOOD, POVERTY, AND COST OF LIVING: Young people are fed up with the government not doing enough to help young people. Most of them feel kicked to the curb and left to fend for themselves. Young people's mentalhealth is slowly deteriorating and school's aren't helping👮🏻‍♀️ SAFETY, CRIME AND INCLUSION: Young people aren't safe, they don't feel safe and most want to see more things done in school to protect young people. The police and young people have a huge hostility between them and but young people want to fix this, they just don't know where to start🧠 MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING: The relationship between teachers and youg people regarding mental health is not positive. Most repsondants felt as though there is a disconnect between the two and for a place that they spend most of their teenage life at, it is not a safe haven for mental health📚 SCHOOL AND EDUCATION: The curriculum is faulty, simple as. Young people think that the curriculum does not work for them and that they want their voices to be heard. This can be through the use of youth councils or other forms of manifestation. (I think so too) 🌎 SPACE AND THE ENVIRONMENT: Young people do care about the environment quite strongly. One of the main issues is pollution and how it damages their area. Bikes are seen as a fix to this problem and this was popular amongst those in my focus groupIn sum, there are a whole load of issues of which I am committed to addressing. I pledge to work with decision makers to give a voice to those most affected by these problems and slowly, but surely, I will change my borough and nationally, together, we can change Britain for young people. by @obed_euypuk
