"Senior man" now in my early twenties, I wear my scars from trauma proudly as trophies from the battles of life I have faced. It's a window to that which glows softly within me.

“We go Again” comes from a place of internal disposition . Should one use the fast pace of people around; as a blueprint to succeed or should he continue with his own pace regardless of the burden that comes with it. Just as the snail carries his home as a gift and a burden, we too carry our life experience, tradition and history that is unique to us . We carry it as a gift and a burden at different paces."- @obimc.studio

"When Red tastes like Forgiveness is an assemblage inspired by broken bread and wine (Holy Communion), including the question “Why would a loving Father intentionally allow His son to die?” In all these, I am reminded that love does not negate the consequences of our actions, and healing is possible when given enough time and intention.”- @ojonugwa_ododo

"Contemplation in Silence: the artist captures a quiet moment of deep thought. The figure appears lost in reflection and emerges from a field of expressive splatters and lines that feel like drifting thoughts. Between chaos and calm, the work invites viewers into the fragile beauty of stillness, where silence speaks louder than words."- @adamsabba_jy

"Becoming What We Carry: Part of The Architecture of Being, Becoming What We Carry explores how our experiences gradually shape identity. What we carry—memories, lessons, relationships, and personal experiences—becomes part of our evolving sense of self. The work reflects on becoming as an ongoing process, shaped by what we have lived and continue to carry."- @shorunke_m.o

In this IG Live commemorating the closing of Undiscovered Lagos 4.0 Group Art Exhibition, @obimc.studio and @olowuife take us through what it means to be a visual artist who understands business. Essentially, this is an entry-level business masterclass for emerging visual artists exploring alternative ways to generate income within the art industry and build sustainable careers beyond the sale of their artworks.

Asked how they process the experience of exhibiting artworks that do not sell, @obimc.studio shares that it does not particularly bother him. Experience has taught him that an artwork that does not sell today can find a buyer tomorrow. Besides, the right collector may not have attended the exhibition or may simply need more time to make a purchasing decision. For @olowuife, visual artists who allow the absence of sales to discourage them may need to reconsider their approach to the profession.

The conversation offers valuable insights into how artists can build relevance and become valuable beyond their art(works). From storytelling and communicating one's artistic journey to the importance of owning one's narrative, @obimc.studio offers a particularly memorable reminder: "Don't be a spokesperson of another artist's story."

Both artists also emphasise planning and prioritisation as essential ingredients for building a sustainable visual art career in Nigeria.

Hosted by @jekami_adetiloye, co-curator of Undiscovered Lagos 4.0, this is a conversation worth listening to, particularly for emerging artists navigating the business realities of the Nigerian art industry. Undiscovered Lagos 4.0 featured 33 visual artists, opened on 19 September 2026, and concludes its exhibition viewing today, 2 October 2026.
