We know what a bad day feels like. Many of us have lived them as service members, veterans, spouses, caregivers, and family members. We have lost our battle buddies to suicide, our friends, family, and loved ones.

That's why we started Objective Zero ten years ago today. We wanted a place where you could reach someone who gets it, right when you need them. Someone who's been where you've been, seen what you've seen, and done what you've done.

Ten years later, our Pathfinders are still answering that call. If you've ever been one of them, or reached out to one, thank you. You are the reason we're here.

Today's challenge: reach out to a service member, veteran, or a spouse or caregiver in your life. Not a "thanks for your service" text, but rather something more like "Thinking about you. How are you really doing?"

Robin Williams. Kate Spade. Anthony Bourdain.

Three names the world knew. People who brought joy, creativity, and adventure into millions of lives. And three people we lost to suicide.

Their stories are a reminder: we often have no idea what someone else is carrying. The friend who always has a joke ready. The one who never complains. The one who seems to have it all figured out. Struggle doesn't always look like struggle.

Check in, not just when someone seems off, but especially when they don't. Ask twice. Listen without rushing to fix. Be aware of the signs, and don't wait for someone to ask for help before you reach out.

You don't need the right words. Simply show up and be there.

What’s driving this crisis, and what can we do to stop it? Today, host Vic Armstrong brings together three advocates from different veterans’ mental health organizations who are approaching this problem from different angles.

Dan Miller of K9s for Veterans, Keith Hotle of @stopsoldiersuicide, and Betsey Mercado of @objectivezeroapp discuss the factors driving suicide among veterans, the warning signs loved ones should watch for, the kinds of support that make a difference, and the progress that’s giving them hope.
