Somehow this weekend I found myself at least temporarily in four ensembles. #oboe #reeds #wizardcat by @oboekenobo

Did you catch all the little jokes? Let me know what you see! Thank you @keleym for the inspiration.

I've been taking my oboe with me for my summer travels the last few years. I leave the gig bag at home, packing up the essentials into a travel pouch. There's also a few things in my Marcus Bona compact oboe case (not shown here) like a swab and (rarely used) cork grease. I pack the case and pouch into a Peak Design Travel Backpack along with some recorders and an Irish whistle. Also I brought my Dolfinos ultra-light minput music stand, and an old iPad Air, and some paper music. There's also some "normal" travel stuff like a laptop, chargers, etc. As you might have guessed, it gets heavy fast. At WAW (Warsaw) airport it was weighed and I had to move some stuff to a suitcase(!). Questions and comments welcome, let's talk! by @oboekenobo

Tell me I'm not the only one who gives (cane) reeds a dip after practice?

Manifesting spring with a birdsong by van Eyck! Don't @ me for the lousy playing - it's tough in the aftermath of a blizzard to even make a sound in the stiff wind. 🤪

Inspired by @elijahboivinmusic.

Never had to learn the Scala di Seta excerpt. 👀

I am long overdue to share this clip from last season's @jhorchestra concert on the 21st of May. When our music director @alexwn told us in rehearsal that our for next concert that we would play this symphony, I gave a yelp of excitement. It's not often, sadly, that one has the opportunity to perform a symphony by a woman composer, especially as a community orchestra musician, let alone a symphony with such a fabulous oboe part.

The bucolic oboe solo in this clip appears early in the second movement, which alternates between a slow Siciliana, an exciting Allegro Vivace section, and a reprise of the Siciliana to wrap up. The English horn features in the reprise, both in an echo of the oboe solo, then briefly as a duet with the oboe, then shortly once more in a duet with the oboe, for a few moments entirely alone, before the orchestra jumps in with a reminder of the recent fast section. If you like the oboe and English horn, this movement is really for you. Perhaps I'll share the second duet in another post.

If you want to learn more about this symphony, I highly recommend the excellent Sticky Notes Podcast episode on it from conductor and violinist @joshuaweilerstein. Link in bio to the podcast.

I don't have time lately to create anything other than reels recorded in near-real time. #oboe #metronome #practice #practicepracticepractice by @oboekenobo

My music practice take on the "am I better than everyone" shtick from the brilliant @ramalauw. This is a ham-fisted imitation of a comedic genius, but still fun to make!
