POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

THE POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES (2007)

Melancholie der Engel is one of the most bizarre, disgusting, and abstract films I've ever seen; I highly recommend it. horror experiment.
Marian Dora’s second feature-length film The Angel’s Melancholia (aka Melancholie der Engel) is a 165 minute neo-pagan cinematic Nachtmahr of dreamy Dionysian depravity.

European Catacomb Saints photographed by Paul Koudounaris.

In 1578, news broke of a discovery in Rome of a labyrinth of underground tombs, which were thought to hold the remains of thousands of early Christian martyrs. Skeletons of these possible saints were subsequently sent to Catholic churches and religious houses in German-speaking Europe to replace holy relics that had been destroyed in the wake of the disastrous Protestant Reformation. The skeletons, known as “the catacomb saints,” were carefully reassembled and devotedly decorated by nuns and laymen, carefully embroidering gems, gold beads, and other precious materials to decorate their bodies. Posed in elaborate displays inside churches and shrines as reminders to the faithful of the heavenly treasures that awaited them after death, as tastes changed during the centuries, these heavenly bodies were safely hidden away from public view, but were hunted down and photographed by Paul Koudounaris.
