Before “Dog Eat Dog” had a chorus, @chinchilla_music walked into a Los Angeles writing session convinced she had nothing left to say.

Then producer @mikewise1117 reached for an old-school country banjo motif. The block lifted. The song arrived fast.

Our new feature on @billboarditalia looks at the tension inside CHINCHILLA’s latest single: bright, restless pop built around the feeling that something can be going well and still leave you unsettled.

The independent scene shaped 2025 more than any trend.
From cinematic alt-pop to ritualistic EDM, from Neapolitan futurism to faceless electronica, these are the artists rewriting what freedom sounds like today.

Obscure Agency presents: Best Independent Artists of 2025, a special edition of the New Artists to Watch series.
Seven voices, seven worlds, one shared vision: identity first.

October’s OFF THE MAINSTREAM selection has no house sound.

R&B and art-pop sit alongside rap, metal and guitar-led rock. Some of these artists have spent years on the road. Others are only a few singles into figuring out what they want to say.

What interests us is the detail: an unexpected reference, a strange title, a choice that makes you want to hear the next song.

Selected by @obscure_agency, read the full feature at the @spinmag link in bio and follow the OFF THE MAINSTREAM playlist on Spotify. #partner

We caught up with @deathbyromy at her Milan show ahead of our upcoming “New Artists to Watch” special edition on Rolling Stone. Her set was raw, immersive, and a sharp reminder of the power independent artists hold when they shape their own narrative.

@saintmesa reclaims one of the most defining songs of his career with a darker, more cinematic reimagining of “Lion”.

This new version made almost 10 years after the original one it’s an act of artistic growth and a gift to the millions of fans that followed him all these years. Alongside the release, Saint Mesa also directed and shot an entirely new official music video in Germany, expanding the world of “Lion” into something rawer, darker and deeply personal.
