Our bad!
We forgot to introduce you to one of our interns (or better to say half intern?). In case you haven’t read Previous interns pages on our website, here we share Mimi-Chan’s blog post. Thanks to @glendazhuo it is live now (Mi needed someone with longer fingers to type it 👩🏻‍💻)

“I am a wild cat. I am a fluffy cat. #fuafua #ふあふあ

I joined Slot 1 mid-way through their internship and they have been extremely welcoming to me or Mi. My favourite activity is processing, which I did twice. I am excited for more to come. My favourite memory was going to Aoimori with Miwako-san and rolling off the keitora into straight up dirt. Although it kind of bruised me, I am now stronger and more alive than ever. I am very sad that Slot 1 is leaving — they have hugged me every day, and they have pushed me to be better, faster, stronger, fluffier every day. #fwafwa #ふわふわ

I hope I have been supporting everyone.

Tea is not only a passion. It is a life choice”.

Swipe to see how Mimi together with her mentor @garance_tea process Japanese green tea —>

Meow! First mission: harvest the fresh tea shoots. My human, Gara-chan, handles the machine while I provide essential harvesting support. They say you need muscles to be a good farmer, but it seems like fiberfill is not a bad option, too!

Freshly harvested leaves are steamed almost immediately to stop enzymatic oxidation and preserve their fresh green character. No paws allowed here! Apparently being fluffy doesn’t make me heat-resistant.

First rolling & drying - professional paw massage 🐾
Heat, airflow and pressure gradually remove moisture while the machines knead the leaves. Gara-chan checks the leaves. I supervise Gara-chan. Perfect meownagement structure

My favorite stage - twist and curl! They say needle shape is a quality marker, but I prefer my tea more fluffy and round ☁️

As cats don’t buy tea, I allowed Gara-Chan to stretch ball shaped tea into the thin threads. That will allow Obubu process proper shaping of needles

The leaves are gradually shaped into the thin, tight, needle-like form. Very elegant. Almost as elegant as my whiskers

The shaped leaves are dried further, reducing their moisture so they can b taken in Obubu Tea by @obubuteafarms

Overheard at Obubu took a little break because we’ve been busy turning the AC on and off every five minutes and attempting to break the world record for the most showers taken in a single day

Japanese summer has officially arrived and Wazuka definitely noticed☀️🥵

Despite the heat, we’re still welcoming tea tour guests, harvesting leaves for this year’s Wakoucha and surviving on cold brew tea

Have you ever tried tea brewed cold? 🍵🧊 taken in Obubu Tea by @obubuteafarms

What could be better than a morning cup of sencha and watching someone try to guess what tea they’re drinking? 🍵

Guess the Tea has become one of our favorite games between tasks and during breaks out in the tea fields

On this sunny day, the challenge was to identify the tea grown using the roji method — fully exposed to sunlight from start to finish ☀️

Feel free to steal this game idea for your next tea gathering and if you need tea to play it, you know where to find us:

Study shows we should all consume less information these days. It’s good for our mental health and helps us stay present 🤳🏽

So we did the filtering for you and picked just one matcha-related update that’s actually worth knowing today:

We’ve expanded our lineup of mono-cultivar spring harvest matcha 🍵

Oh sorry, one more tiny piece of information:

You can already order it on obubutea.com
We hope we didn’t overwhelm you with this many good news 🙏🏽 taken in Obubu Tea by @obubuteafarms

New field in Monzen unlocked 🌱💪

This year, Akky-san got quite a few new fields because, hey, passion is an unstoppable force of the human soul. This one is “Monzen Horii-san” (also known as Monzen Oku 門前奥—we’re still figuring out all the names of the new fields).

Shhh, he got another tea field two days ago that even we haven’t seen yet. 🙈

This was filmed shortly after our first harvest from this Yabukita field for tencha three weeks ago, just before the summer trimming began, so the field looks a bit leaf-less now while waiting for new growth to come in.

With the typhoons, June somehow felt much colder and rainier this year than the previous, with a few road closures there and there caused by fallen trees and landslides. But now the sun is starting to shine more, and the temperature—as well as the humidity (oh no)—keeps rising. Which means more sweaty farming quests.

We’ve also processed the first batches of Summer Sun and Brightness sencha, with a few more harvest and processing days still to come. 🌱

Thank you for tuning in! 🍵 taken in Wazuka, Kyoto by @obubuteafarms

Slot 2 always arrives during the busiest time of the year — the spring harvest. 💪🏽

While we’re waiting for your Slot 4 applications, we’d love to introduce the interns who made it through April’s training, May’s beautifully curated chaos of harvest and tourist season, hundreds of kilograms of tea production, June’s typhoon and are now just two weeks away from graduation

If you’d like to experience life on a real Japanese tea farm, don’t wait too long ⏱️

Applications for our September internship are now open — find the link in our bio taken in Obubu Tea by @obubuteafarms

Rumor has it you can find a full schedule of recurring workshops by local artisans in the Local Activities section on obubutea.com

But honestly we figured we’d save you the search and gather the upcoming dates right here

Because we know planning your dream trip to Japan can sometimes feel like a full-time job 🙏🏽

There are side quests you can proudly bring up over dinner, at a networking event, or even on a first date 🙂

Just imagine saying:
“Oh, by the way… I’m an ambassador for a tea farm in the heart of Kyoto Prefecture. Yeah, the one in Japan.”

Sounds pretty good, right?

And the best part? It’s real.

Our interns have the opportunity to earn Obubu Ambassador status by completing the program

It’s more than just a title. As an Ambassador you become part of our community, gain access to educational resources and receive our support if you decide to host tea events featuring Obubu tea in your own country

Your internship may end, but your tea journey with Obubu doesn’t have to 🌿

Make sure to read more about each project on our website: obubutea.com -> About Us -> Blog taken in Obubu Tea by @obubuteafarms
