windows covered with shutters

i see you in the hazy brown sunlight
a rhythm of the sun
breathes on your face
as the trees and blinds
wave in the wind

you lie there peacefully
your eyes closed
your hand holding
what i make out to be mine

i watch you
as if dazed
with the light that shines
radiant, as if it comes from you

i stroke the strand of hair
tickling your nose with the wind
and tuck it
neatly behind your ear

but i feel my breaths
heaving and struggling to
keep up with these thoughts

i feel myself moving
reluctantly pulling my hand away
as it protests loudly
shaking as if angry to go

i feel distraught
i am awaken
from my slumber

i look over the other side
of my bed

the train leaves and arrives
everyday at the same time
as the clock strikes
i hold my face up

in hopes i'd see
the glee
on your face
as you run to me

in hopes i'd pick you
off your feet
with little screams
of joy breaking past our face

till the gates close
the train leaves
and i stay there
slowly putting my face down

as my tears form
still waiting
questioning
where i went wrong

one day

i throw around my heart
like confetti
pieces sprawled beautifully
the only way i've ever known
my heart to be

how do i live
with the knowledge
that whatever i do

the timing won't ever be right
that this helplessness
as i look in to my eyes
staring back at me in the mirror
won't fade with time

whatever i feel
won't be enough
to make you realise
you are

how do i live
knowing
that i piece together

what i call "my heart"
and hand it to you

yet you still don't want to fight

atleast maybe these pieces
could live with peace
knowing you survived

even if i die
walking to get to you

towards the distant chance of "us"

can't you reach out to me a little?
are you not ready yet?
to play with the shards
that fall from the sky
