Notting Hill Carnival, from inside the rhythm!

This year I had the joy of playing at Notting Hill Carnival, Dendê Nation. It was an amazing experience that I still can’t 💯 express my gratitude and joy. It was overwhelmingly positive and the atmosphere was vibrant.

The day itself was only part of the story. We rehearsed a lot beforehand, with many sessions and plenty of practice, so that when the moment came we could play as one. All that preparation made the day even more special. Dendê Nation won the best Brazilian band for the second year.

There’s something magical about being part of the sound rather than just hearing it. Every beat connected us to each other, to the crowd, and to the street itself.

For me, it was also a privilege to witness Caribbean, Brazilian, African culture and the other cultures so alive, and to see the whole community come together to celebrate. That sense of togetherness is something I’ll carry with me.

A huge thank you to everyone who organised the Parade, who made the costumes and for everyone who made the day special. Already looking forward to next year! 💛

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who attended this incredible event. It was truly the best crowd we’ve ever seen at a Brazilian night festa that we organized. You made it unforgettable! Your donations were appreciated!!

Our deepest gratitude goes to the owners and staff of The Forbidden Fruit for their invaluable support in helping us create a fantastic experience for all who danced and celebrated with us.

A huge thank you to the Dende drummers and Ana Carolina for your phenomenal performances—you all truly rocked the show!

Nadia Pimentel added a special touch with her infectious voice, vibrant energy, and charisma.

We also want to thank Elliot (Easy Green DJ) for his initiative in fundraising for Ocabrazoka, as well as our amazing guest DJs, Vix and DJ Mattaios.

Lastly, a heartfelt thanks to our friends and my beloved family for being there.

Obrigada,
Dendê and Ocabrazoka Team

Join us for a free and fun gathering focused on making and upcycling costumes for the JITG parade; as well as drumming and dancing to samba reggae and Afro-Brazilian music!

There will be delicious Senegambia and Brazilian food to be purchased.

If you’d like to dance with the Dende drummers at the JITG parade, please let us know. We’ll be rehearsing the basic steps and creating costumes together!

If you’re interested in dancing, please DM us and we will provide details on what to bring for costume-making.

The Ócabrazóka’s journeys of venues and homes are coming to an end with one last chapter.

We’ve had an amazing 4 years with @joyful.roots and the team of a supportive community where we felt at home and very welcomed.

We’re grateful 🙏 for everything and everyone who helped us create memories at the yard. Now, it’s time to turn the page and start a new one! Hopefully we will be reunited soon! by @ocabrazoka
