The Devil: Attachment or Awareness?

The Devil card tends to make people uncomfortable.

And honestly, I think that’s because deep down, most of us recognize some part of ourselves in it.

In tarot readings, The Devil is often associated with unhealthy attachments, addiction, temptation, toxic patterns, obsession, and feeling stuck.

But when I look at this card through the lens of tarot therapy, I see something more human.

The habits we know aren’t helping us… but keep returning to.
The relationships we’ve outgrown… but still feel emotionally tied to.
The thoughts that tell us we have no choice.
The coping mechanisms that feel familiar, even when they quietly drain us.

The Devil doesn’t always show external control.

Sometimes, it reflects the internal patterns we’ve normalized.

And that’s what makes this card powerful for self-awareness and shadow work.

Because healing doesn’t begin when the pattern disappears.
It begins when you clearly see it.

So maybe the real question is:
What are you calling comfort that is actually keeping you stuck?

Temperance: Balance or Avoidance?

The Temperance card is often described as balance, patience, and harmony.

But I think this card becomes far more interesting when we ask a harder question:
Am I actually balanced… or have I just become good at suppressing what I feel?

In tarot readings, Temperance is usually associated with emotional healing, moderation, inner harmony, and alignment. But in tarot therapy, it often reveals our relationship with emotional regulation.

There’s a difference between being calm and being disconnected.

There’s a difference between emotional balance and emotional silence.

Sometimes we call it “keeping the peace” when we’re actually avoiding discomfort.
Sometimes we tell ourselves we’re being patient, when really, we’re emotionally frozen.

Temperance reminds us that healing is not about choosing one emotion over another.

You can be grieving and grateful.
Overwhelmed and hopeful.
Healing and still hurting.

That’s emotional integration.

So maybe the real question is:
Are you creating balance… or just avoiding intensity?

Death: Release or Resistance?

The Death card is probably one of the most feared tarot cards—and honestly, unfairly so.

Most people see it and immediately assume something bad is coming.

But in my experience, the Death card rarely speaks about literal endings in the dramatic way people imagine. More often, it shows up when something within us is ready to change.

A version of you.
A pattern.
A belief.
A relationship dynamic.
An attachment you’ve outgrown but are still holding onto.

In tarot therapy, the Death card becomes less about fear and more about emotional transformation.

Because sometimes what hurts most is not the ending itself—
it’s our resistance to letting go.

When life keeps asking for change, but we keep clinging to what feels familiar, stagnation begins to feel like suffering.

So maybe the real question is:
What in you is asking to be released?

The Hanged Man (Arcanum XII) is the archetype of Voluntary Surrender. But through the lens of tarot therapy, this card becomes a powerful mirror for self-awareness and emotional healing.

But what if this card isn’t about life being “stuck” at all?

What if it’s asking you to pause long enough to see something differently?
Sometimes we think we’re waiting for clarity…
when actually, we’re resisting change.

Sometimes we call it “being stuck”…
when what’s really needed is a new perspective.

Justice: Accountability or Avoidance?

Stop calling it "bad luck" and start calling it "consequences."Justice is the "reality check" of the deck. It’s the moment you stop waiting for the universe to be fair and start being fair to yourself by acknowledging the truth.
Sometimes this card appears when we want clarity, but are still avoiding uncomfortable truths.
Sometimes we expect fairness from others while struggling to hold ourselves accountable.

Justice reminds us that self-awareness is not always comfortable.
But without honesty, real healing cannot happen. by @occultmindtherapy

The Wheel of Fortune: Luck or pattern repetition

The Wheel of Fortune is often called the card of luck, destiny, and sudden change.

But honestly, I’ve noticed that this card appears most when life feels uncertain and we’re struggling to let go of control.

Not every shift in life is meant to punish you.
Sometimes, change is simply showing you where you’ve outgrown old patterns, routines, or expectations.

In tarot therapy, The Wheel of Fortune becomes less about “What’s going to happen next?” and more about:
“How do I respond when life doesn’t go according to plan?”

That question alone can reveal so much about our fears, attachment to certainty, and emotional resilience.

The Hermit: Solitude or Isolation?

People often associate The Hermit with loneliness, isolation, or withdrawing from the world. But sometimes, this card appears when life becomes too noisy and you can no longer hear yourself clearly.

For me, The Hermit is less about “being alone” and more about reconnecting with your inner voice.

When this card shows up in a tarot reading, it can be an invitation to pause, reflect, and ask yourself whether your solitude is helping you heal… or helping you avoid what you feel.

Tarot becomes powerful when we stop using it only for prediction and start using it for self-awareness, emotional clarity, and inner work.

What does The Hermit mean to you?

Strength: Control or Compassion?

Strength is often seen as struggle(taming the beast) and success.
But true power is not just about control—it includes compassion.

This card asks you to look at how you respond to your emotions,
and whether your inner lion is being guided or silenced.

It's not necessary to control everything, occasionally it must be felt.
Being gentle is not a sign of weakness, its the cornerstone of inner stability.

The Lovers: Alignment or Attachment?

The Lovers is often considered as a romantic relationship or a harmonious card.
But true harmony doesn't lie in your feelings or choices towards another person but towards you.

This card asks you to look at what is guiding your decisions
and whether your actions are in harmony with your internal values.

People-pleasing is not always harmony. Sometimes, it’s a betrayal of self.
Choosing yourself isn't selfish; it's the foundation of authentic connection.

The Hierophant: Tarot for therapy. In Occult Mind Therapy, our 5th major arcana card, The Hierophant, acts as a mirror for our relationship with belief systems.

The Therapeutic Perspective: The Hierophant reflects guidance, learning, structure—
the need for meaning and direction. But it also shows rigid beliefs and fear of thinking differently.

Self-Awareness Prompt: Are you holding onto your belief just because you were taught so, or do you truly believe in it?
