Over the weekend we pulled our tagged shark acoustic receiver network off the ocean floor and have downloaded over two years of fine scale shark movement data in the Esperance Bay.

Special thanks to..
Coordinator / diver Marc Payne & skipper Joel Benn for their time retrieving the receivers on the weekend.

Tonight we will be presenting to the committee at the Rotary Club of Esperance Bay after being invited following the most recent shark attack on young swimmer JM at Kelp beds beach.

Here’s a couple of visual representations that highlights our shark problem very clearly 👀

Esperance has become the GWS hotspot of the world for all the wrong reasons and our current State and Federal Governments are failing to protect valuable human life.

Hi all
History has shown that Spring is a hot time for shark activity in our town. October in particular, which now upon us.

A big part of Ocean Safety & Support - Esperance mission is to educate, train and provide awareness regarding shark movements and risk mitigation.

We hope to get as many of these kits out amongst the community to hopefully save lives in the event of serious trauma.

As most of us know, the Spring months are upon us and as history has shown us to expect an increase in sightings, encounters and potentially attacks.

In the launching of this website we hope to raise awareness, educate and protect our community in the future.

Shark Bite Management training
09/01/20 Thursday night we will be hosting a public forum discussing recent shark activity.
Convened by Mitch Capelli from the Esperance Ocean Safety Group with special guest Dr Jon Cohen, Emergency Doctor and founder of Calm As First Aid.
There will be an opportunity for community members to discuss recent events. Dr Cohen will be sharing his expertise in the area of Emergent First Aid for shark bite victims. After a brief demonstration, attendees will be given the opportunity to practice applying Arterial Tourniquets on each other under medical supervision. This will be followed by a Q&A.
There is no charge for the event. Voluntary contributions will be collected and put towards deploying Haemorrhage Control Stations at strategic locations in and around town. Come down and find out what you can do to help save you, your mates and your loved ones in the unlikely event of a major shark bite, propeller chop or other bleeding emergency.

🚨 Local Fisherman experienced an aggressive female attacking their boat 50m behind the Esperance Port Authority breakwater on 16/01/18. Please be warned as we continue to experience increased sightings close to shore. ⠀
