Sent it out with my buddy for a quick couple drops, couldn’t find the bait we were after but sent it with 10 grunts anyway and the very first two drops produced two very nice black grouper! Third bait down we got a stud yellow jack! Sometimes you roll with what you got and get rewarded for sticking it out! @cmormaps with the major assist! If you want to take bottom fishing seriously invest int the tools to make you the best you can be! Opening day grouper season. Started off with zero current and a non existent bite.. headed offshore and got into endless schools of mahi, caught a jumbo free jumping sailfish. Then saw a 2-250lb blue marlin surfacing. As we are following him a giant sword breaches the surface and makes a big jump! We decided to try one more spot on our way in and found a trickle of north current, which produced this gorgeous gag grouper on a pilchard and spinning rod setup. Of course he didn’t hit the pinfish on the 50w we had down on the other gunnel.. either way my clients had a great day, box full of meat and were able to witness epicness offshore! You wouldn’t believe the chain of events that occurred to produce this bruiser 30” mutton! Live pilchard gets picked up by a tern (white bird) and ran off about 35 yards away from the boat. I attempt to get him to drop the bait and he drops it right on this mutton’s head! A 10 minute finesse battle on the 15lb braid and 20lb fluro ensued. At the end game I can see him digging for a massive barrel sponge and in his last ditch effort kept attempting to wrap me around it but failed. Inshore fishing has been on fire! Producing some numbers and serious quality fish on light tackle!
