Six years ago, I moved to Baja California Sur thinking I was simply starting a new chapter.

I had no idea I was about to fall in love with an entirely different world..

It all started when I began joining ocean safaris with my friend Bringas, who has spent more than 20 years exploring these waters. Through him, I learned not only where to find marine wildlife, but also the importance of observing it with patience and respect.

Later, I discovered freediving, and it gave me an even deeper connection with the ocean.

That journey became Ocean in Freedom.

My goal isn’t just to help people see marine wildlife.

It’s to create meaningful experiences that inspire a deeper connection with the ocean while always putting the animals and their habitat first.

¿Es tu primer Ocean Safari? Aquí respondemos algunas preguntas frecuentes 🌊

¿Necesito ser buen nadador?
Si planeas entrar al agua, es importante que te sientas cómodo nadando en mar abierto y usando snorkel y máscara. No necesitas ser experto.

¿Necesito una certificación de apnea o buceo?
No necesitas certificación para unirte a nuestros Ocean Safaris. Nuestras experiencias se enfocan en el snorkel.

¿Veremos vida marina?
La fauna se mueve libremente en su hábitat, así que los avistamientos no se pueden garantizar. Cada día en el mar es diferente.

¿Todas las experiencias incluyen snorkel?
Depende de la experiencia; algunas incluyen snorkel. El avistamiento de ballenas se realiza desde la embarcación y no está permitido nadar con ellas durante esta actividad.

¿El equipo está incluido?
Incluimos snorkel, máscara y aletas; también wetsuit si es necesario. Además, ofrecemos agua y snacks.

¿Cuánto dura un Ocean Safari?
Aproximadamente cinco horas a bordo.

Baja está viva. Y mantenerla así es responsabilidad de todos. 🌊

Entre el Pacífico y el Golfo de California, Baja California Sur alberga una extraordinaria diversidad de vida. Corrientes, surgencias, arrecifes, manglares, islas, playas y otros hábitats sostienen especies que encuentran aquí zonas de alimentación, reproducción, crianza y rutas migratorias.

Pero lo extraordinario también puede ser vulnerable.

El desarrollo costero, la contaminación, la presión sobre los recursos y la alteración de hábitats pueden afectar el equilibrio de estos ecosistemas. Conservarlos también significa entender qué está pasando en nuestro territorio, mantenernos informados y apoyar a quienes trabajan para protegerlo.

Each year, vast schools of sardines gather along the Pacific coast of Baja, creating one of the ocean’s most extraordinary natural events. Marlin, sea lions, dolphins, whales, seabirds and other predators arrive to join the action—yet every day on the water tells a different story.

From October through early December, we follow the conditions and choose the best possible days to head out. Nothing is staged, and no encounter is guaranteed. That’s the beauty of exploring the open ocean.

Meet the mola mola—one of the ocean’s most unusual giants.

With its distinctive shape, beak-like mouth and incredible size, this species is unlike any other fish in the ocean. It dives into deep, cold waters in search of food and is often seen near the surface afterward, warming up in the sun.

Encounters like this can never be planned or guaranteed. Having the opportunity to swim alongside one in the wild was an experience I’ll never forget. 🌊

For a few seconds, a pilot whale stopped directly in front of me.

It was my first encounter with this species. I remained completely still, overwhelmed by the presence of such a majestic animal and deeply grateful for that moment.

Short-finned pilot whales can grow to more than seven meters and dive hundreds of meters in search of squid. They can be seen in the waters of Baja California Sur, but encounters like this can never be planned or guaranteed—they happen spontaneously, on their terms.

Los Islotes sea lion colony, in La Paz, is one of the most special places in Baja California Sur to observe sea lions in the wild.

The younger ones are curious, playful, and often seem like real puppies of the sea. They swim up to you, circle around you, and make every encounter completely different—always on their terms.

After the seasonal closure to protect the colony during breeding season, swimming and snorkeling activities resume in September.
