🦈 How do white sharks see in the dark?

White sharks are built for life in the ocean. Their specialized eyesight allows them to see extremely well even when very little light is available, helping them navigate and hunt through changing conditions.

Support shark research, conservation, and education through the OCEARCH Meet A Shark Sweepstakes for your chance to join our crew on an expedition and meet a shark alongside OCEARCH scientists.

🦈 Breton's latest movements have scientists asking one big question...

While most white sharks are spending the summer around Atlantic Canada and Cape Cod, Breton has taken a very different route. At the same time, sharks like Ernst, Nori, and Quint have returned to the waters around Scatarie Island, an important feeding area that has become a recurring summer hotspot for white sharks.

"Sharks don't always follow the rulebook," says OCEARCH Senior Data Scientist John Tyminski. "Breton's unexpected journey reminds us that the factors driving white shark movements are complex, and we're still uncovering the secrets behind these remarkable migrations."

🦈 $22,388 raised for shark science—and it’s all because of this incredible community.

A huge thank you to @ciscobrewers and the Nantucket Triathlon for bringing together such an amazing community in support of shark science and ocean conservation during the annual White Shark Party.

Because of your generosity, we raised $22,388 at this year’s event, bringing our three-year total to more than $60,000 in support of OCEARCH’s mission.

Every dollar helps fuel critical shark research, education, and conservation by providing scientists with the data they need to better understand white sharks and help accelerate the ocean’s return to balance and abundance.

Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, volunteered, and supported this event. Your generosity is helping advance science and protect our oceans for generations to come.

We can’t wait to do it again next year! 🌊🦈 taken in Nantucket, Massachusetts by @ocearch

🦈 WHITE SHARK CROSS MOVES FURTHER NORTH

Cross, a 9 ft. 1 in. juvenile male white shark, has continued his journey north within the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

His latest ping (July 19) placed him in the Honguedo Strait between the Gaspé Peninsula and Anticosti Island, ~5.5 miles off the coast of Quebec.

With this check-in, Cross is currently the northernmost shark actively pinging on the OCEARCH Global Shark Tracker!

Download the free OCEARCH Global Shark Tracker app to follow Cross’ journey using the link in our bio!

Cross was tagged in collaboration with the @tancookfieldstation.
