The nose knows. 🚨 Case in point: we once showed a home where the smell hit us the second we walked in. Turns out the owners were really into taxidermy. We opened a closet and came face to face with a full stuffed raccoon. Staring. Just... staring. A musty or unusual smell can also mean moisture, mold, or poor ventilation hiding behind a very pretty wall. No chandelier (or stuffed raccoon) is going to distract us from that. O’NO RENO | The checkerboard deserved better. 😭

Listen, we’re not saying you can’t renovate. We’re saying if you buy a house with this much personality, maybe don’t renovate the personality out of it. The exterior? Adorable. The original details? We’re listening. And then we walk inside and suddenly… she’s been given the white-box treatment. O’NO.
We love a renovation (obviously), but there’s a difference between updating a home and erasing the things that made it special in the first place. Give us the quirks, give us the craftsmanship, give us the checkerboard floors, give us a house that still knows who she is. Most of the time, character ISN'T the problem to solve. It’s usually the reason we fell in love with the house to begin with.

And for the record: we’re luxury real estate agents and developers, not designers. We just spend an unreasonable amount of time inside LA homes and have VERY strong feelings about the good ones keeping their soul. K thanks byeeee. 🫶

This season we're less interested in whether something is beautiful on its own and more interested in what happens next to something else. The antique beside the contemporary, the rough against the polished, burgundy sitting next to pale blue and somehow making the whole room smarter.

A little tension is the point. Libra knows balance was never about matching.

And in this case, that’s not just us romanticizing it.
