This week, Bomb technicians from local law enforcement agencies, CAL Fire, the FBI, and the U.S. Military carried out a controlled disposal of explosives in a secluded area.

The OC Bomb Squad carefully transported explosives to a designated disposal site, where they were safely detonated in a controlled environment. The items consisted of illegal explosives, explosive precursors, illegal fireworks, aged commercial/military explosives, and an assortment of explosive detection canine explosive training aids past their prime.

OC residents are reminded to always report any suspicious activities or items to local authorities and to never attempt to handle or disturb potential explosives themselves.

A huge thank you to @riversidecountysheriff for hosting once again!

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad is proud to recognize Deputy Spaulding and his new K9 partner, Artur “Art” (K168), on successfully graduating from the TSA Explosive Detection Canine Course (26-10E) at the TCD Canine Training Center, Joint Base San Antonio–Lackland, Texas!

Over 11 weeks of intensive training, Deputy Spaulding and Art, a year-and-a-half-old German Shepherd, developed the skills and teamwork necessary for single-purpose explosives detection operations. Their hard work, dedication, and commitment to the mission have prepared them to take on this important responsibility together.

Deputy Spaulding and K9 Art will be assigned to the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), where they will focus on intermodal mass transit security. Their specialized explosive detection capabilities will help support public safety and provide an added layer of security for the transportation systems that keep our community moving.

Congratulations to Deputy Spaulding and K9 Art on this outstanding achievement! We look forward to seeing this team in action.

Fun fact! German Shorthaired Pointers (GSPs) most frequently shake because a rush of adrenaline from intense excitement triggers their natural hunting instincts. SHAKE AND BAKE! by @ocsdbombsquad

A new month, another graduate from the Hazardous Devices School in Alabama. Deputy Kruggel joins our ranks as our newest public safety bomb technician in Orange County.

Much like his predecessors, Deputy Kruggel endured years of rigorous training in preparation to become a bomb technician. He volunteered his time on many occasions, serving as an actor and fulfilling other roles in support of the team. His steadfast devotion and unwavering commitment to the program undoubtedly contributed to his success.

From the Dana Point Harbor to the San Clemente Pier, Deputy Santo and K9 Mack are teaming up to share an important reminder:

🎇🚫 Fireworks are prohibited in Dana Point and San Clemente.

Help us protect our beaches, neighborhoods, and open spaces by leaving fireworks to the professionals this summer.

Be like Mack. Choose fetch over fireworks. 🐾 by @ocsdbombsquad

Today we honor the life and legacy of K9 Archie, a loyal partner, dedicated protector, and beloved member of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department family.

Archie served OCSD for 8 years as a TSA-certified Explosive Detection Canine assigned to John Wayne Airport, where his keen nose, unwavering focus, and steady presence helped keep countless travelers and airport personnel safe.

After an outstanding career, Archie enjoyed 4 years of retirement surrounded by those who loved him most. On May 13th, Archie celebrated his 14th birthday, a milestone that reflected a life well lived.

Working dogs leave an impact far beyond their years of service. They become trusted partners, faithful companions, and members of our family. Archie embodied all of those qualities and more.

We are grateful for his years of dedicated service, his contributions to public safety, and the joy he brought to everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Rest easy, Archie. Your watch has ended, but your legacy will live on in the hearts of your family, teammates, and the community you helped protect.
