Who’s behind OCTANT?

I’m Cory Barron—and this photo is probably a more accurate introduction than a polished headshot.

After years of producing weddings, private events and live shows, I kept seeing the same need: creative teams had ambitious ideas, but they needed a production partner who cared about the entire experience, not just the equipment being delivered.

That’s why OCTANT exists.

We’re a Tampa-based show technology company specializing in lasers, special effects, lighting, projection and the technical systems that bring big ideas to life.

But our work is really about something simpler: listening to the vision, solving the difficult parts and making every element feel intentional.

Some days that means designing an unforgettable show. Other days it means unloading CO₂ tanks in dress clothes.

Whatever the job requires, we’re here for it.

Bring us the ambitious idea—even if someone else has already told you it can’t be done. taken in Tampa, Florida by @octantshowtech

Projection on drape is having a moment in weddings.

For this design, the drape had a clear purpose. It was the canvas.

We used it to bring the couple’s story into the room at a scale guests could experience together. The texture of the fabric softened the image and made the projection feel like part of the space.

The balance was important. The technology could never become more important than the people it was featuring.

The drape was the canvas. Their story was the content. The couple remained the focal point. taken in Ybor City by @octantshowtech

Seeing ABC7 chatting about our Golden Wings Gala was just too exciting not to share again! 🥹🦋✨

BUT what makes our gala even more special is the incredible group of vendors, local businesses, sponsors and supporters who have rallied behind The Sisterhood Project USA and believe in what we’re building.

So many talented people are giving their time, resources, services and hearts to help us create an unforgettable evening- and ultimately, to help us give more children access to the sports, music and arts that every child deserves to experience.

We truly could not do this without the amazing community standing behind us. Seeing so many businesses come together for these kids is something we will never take for granted. 💛

Thank you ABC7 for helping us shine a light on the Golden Wings Gala and ALL of the incredible people making it possible. 🦋✨

Last night, SWEL brought our event community together at @thewestinsarasota.

The room was full of color, texture and detail. Our job was to make sure the production supported all of it.

We used lighting to bring out the deep green drape, gold panels, florals and lanterns while keeping clean, flattering light on the people leading the conversation.

Behind the scenes, our team handled the audio and RF coordination for a full panel. Every voice needed to be clear. Every wireless channel needed to be dependable. The audience should be focused on the conversation, not thinking about the technology making it possible.

That’s always the goal. Help the room feel exciting, then direct the attention exactly where it belongs.

Proud of our team and grateful to @swelevents for trusting us with the lighting, audio and RF for another incredible evening.

Sometimes the light needs to come from a place where there is nowhere to put a traditional fixture.

That is where the fun starts.

Creating light where it wasn’t and directing it exactly where it should be. That’s our job.

The FUEL Angle M is one of our favorite tools because it lets us place small, focused sources inside scenic pieces, floral installations and other tight spaces where a larger fixture would become part of the view.

Each head can be positioned independently, allowing us to highlight the details that matter without washing out everything around them.

The guests may never notice these little lights.

They’ll notice what the lights allow them to see. taken in Don CeSar Beach Resort, St. Pete Beach by @octantshowtech

I’ve always loved this image and it was a cell phone pic from the dj booth… but it captured something I think live events professionals and couples can appreciate.

Before the couple stepped onto the dance floor, something meaningful was already waiting for them.

The Chinese double happiness symbol represents joy in marriage and two lives coming together. We made it the center of the lighting design, then framed it with large floral patterns that carried the moment across the entire wall.

When the room went dark and their first dance began, the backdrop became part of their story.

That is what personalization should feel like.

It should be beautiful, of course. More importantly, it should belong to the people standing in the middle of it.

Some purchases add equipment. This one changes what we can do.

When we started building OCTANT, we knew audio would eventually become a major part of the company. We also knew the system we chose had to support where we are going, not only where we are today.

Today, I’m excited to announce that OCTANT has officially invested in @pksound

Our new inventory includes twelve PK T8 line arrays, eight PK T218 subwoofers, eight PK Sound TX26 loudspeakers and a PK Cell, all brand new and ready to deploy.

Through our strategic partnership with @platinumlivepro , we can combine that inventory with their twelve PK T8s and PK double 18” subwoofers to build a scalable system for live shows, festivals, corporate events and large private events throughout Florida and beyond.

We chose PK because we wanted control, consistency and a system we could continue building around for years.

This also gives other PK partners and production companies another source of dependable, show-ready inventory in Florida when their shows need additional support.

The shows are getting bigger. The ideas are getting more ambitious. We’re building the company and the inventory to meet them.

@bewedsrq and @mdpevents know how to throw a beautiful party. @shaunaandjordon know how to capture it.

That also makes it pretty hard to surprise a room full of wedding professionals. For SWEL’s 10th anniversary, we wanted to do exactly that.

We wanted something different. Something exciting. Something beyond the wedding lighting everyone in that room sees every weekend.

The lasers carried the design beyond the stage and created a canopy of color and movement over the dance floor. Once the music started and the room filled, the entire space came alive.

SWEL has spent ten years bringing this industry together, and the anniversary deserved to feel like a real milestone.

Sometimes the best way to celebrate ten years is to show people something they haven’t seen before. taken in The St. Regis Longboat Key Resort by @octantshowtech

One photo. Nine rooms. Multiple days.

This was the general session, but it was only one part of the production.

At the same time, our team was supporting eight breakout rooms, each with its own presenters, schedules and technical needs.

We handled the full production from planning and equipment through staffing and show execution.

The general session needed to look polished. Every breakout room needed to work. Every microphone, presentation and transition needed to be ready when the next speaker walked in.

That is the real challenge of a multi-day corporate program. It is not one big moment. It is keeping every room moving, solving problems quickly and giving the client one team they can trust throughout the entire event.

I’m proud of what our team delivered here and excited for people to see more of this side of OCTACT x @tbdjco

I did that thing again.

I promised I was going to post more. Then I didn’t. I got busy, disappeared into the work and came back with even more cool stuff our market and industry didn’t know it needed.

So allow me to reintroduce myself.

My name is Cory.

I’m a DJ, event host, professional event problem-solver and the founder of @tbdjco.

I still love being behind the DJ booth. Reading a room, finding the right record and creating moments people talk about years later will always be a big part of who I am.

At the same time, what we’re building has grown into something much bigger than me.

I’m incredibly proud of our team at @tbdjco. They work hard, care about our clients and consistently show up for our venues and creative partners. A lot of what they do happens behind the scenes, but their effort is the reason we continue to grow.

We’re building something special here. A company that cares about the entire event, not just our part of it.

And because I apparently don’t know how to leave a good idea alone, there’s also a certain white octopus making a little noise behind the scenes. @octantshowtech

I’m not going to promise I’ll post more this time.

But I do have plenty of stories to tell and a lot of exciting things to show you.

Let’s try this again. taken in Tampa, Florida by @octantshowtech

Throwing it back to one of our first chandelier installations.

The vision was to create something romantic and dramatic above the dance floor—without making the room feel overly decorated.

It meant hours on a lift carefully placing each chandelier, securing the rigging and weight lines, running power and dimmers, and checking every bulb to make sure the color temperature matched. The finished moment looks effortless. Getting there wasn’t.

All of that work disappeared once the lights came down and the couple stepped onto the floor, and I think that’s the point.

Guests should experience the warmth, scale and beauty of the design—not the technical work required to create it.

The vision was clean, modern and almost entirely black and white—so every production element needed to feel like part of the design.

The white vinyl dance floor created a bright centerpiece for the room, finished with a custom black monogram that tied directly into the couple’s visual identity. We love some good branding!!!

Matching white stage fronts gave the band a polished platform and even the cold spark machines received white covers. The cables, secured in white tape.

It’s a small detail, but an important one. The equipment stayed visually quiet until the couple’s first dance—then the sparks became part of the moment without pulling attention away from it.

That’s why the details matter.

Great production shouldn’t feel like equipment was added to a beautiful room. It should support the aesthetic, disappear when it’s supposed to and come alive at exactly the right moment.
