⚙️👷🏽‍♂️OCVTS Training and Industry Partnership Open Doors to Careers in Land Surveying and Engineering | October 14, 2026

(OCVTS) partnership with Olmeda Consulting, LLC, connects career-focused education with real-world experience in the surveying and geospatial industry.

Founded in 2024 and based in Manasquan, New Jersey, Olmeda Consulting provides geospatial services with a focus on accuracy, quality, safety, and dependable project delivery. Through this partnership, students gain hands-on experience with professional surveying equipment, field procedures, and industry practices under the guidance of experienced professionals.

By aligning technical training with the needs of industry, OCVTS engineering programs help prepare students for career opportunities in engineering, land surveying, and related fields. The district’s established Engineering Technology program provides students with a strong technical foundation, while the new Civil Engineering CADD and Surveying program, launching in 2027, will broaden access to specialized training. This connection between education and employment is reflected in graduates Alberto Cegion and Payton Gordon, who were hired as Instrument Operators following internships with Olmeda Consulting. The company is now looking to OCVTS for a third candidate to join its team as a Junior CAD Drafter, highlighting the role of career and technical education in developing a skilled workforce.

Founder Marc Olmeda, the partnership is an opportunity to introduce students to career paths they may not have previously considered and share the knowledge he has gained through more than 20 years of professional land surveying experience.

Through meaningful industry partnerships and hands-on learning, OCVTS continues to prepare students with the technical skills employers need while creating pathways to rewarding careers.

The owner, Marc Olmeda, visited the OCVTS Jackson Center and did a presentation for our Engineering Technology Program. It piqued my interest, so I reached out to him.

Marc took on me and another classmate in July as instrument operators. I'm developing my skills in the surveying and engineering field.

OCVTS prepared me for the real world and played a huge role in my current position. Proficiency in basic measurements and math, such as understanding eighths, is crucial in the trades.

❝ Keep learning math! It's everywhere.❞

ℹ️ ABOUT THE PROGRAM
ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY
2 YEAR / 900 HOURS / JACKSON
Engineering Technology is an authentic makerspace equipped with machinery used in industry, designed to meet the current and emerging workforce needs in the advanced manufacturing industry. Students in the program will explore the production of metal and plastic products through manual and automated processes. Completers of this program will acquire a diverse and well-rounded set of academic and technical skills that will prepare them to enter the workforce and/or college. Students interested in pursuing a degree in engineering will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of the capabilities and limitations of production machinery. This knowledge is valuable to aspiring engineers as they will possess a well-rounded understanding of the production process, allowing them to problem-solve and troubleshoot design challenges before they hit the production floor. Areas of study include: Computer Numerical Control (CNC) theory/operations, interpreting engineering drawings, quality control, production planning, digital read-out skills, metal fabrication, GTAW (TIG) welding, GMAW (MIG) welding, precision measurement and analysis, manual machining operations, workplace safety (OSHA-10), Robotics, and 3D printing. Students can earn HAAS certification for basic mill operator.

The owner, Marc Olmeda, visited the OCVTS Jackson Center to speak to the Engineering Technology Program about his profession. I wasn't familiar with the word "surveyor," but everything he explained sounded interesting, so I decided to apply. I wasn't expecting to hear back from him because I didn't have any experience. I am very lucky to have been given this opportunity.

OCVTS changed my work ethic. It helped shape me into the person I am today. I'll always be grateful for everything I learned at OCVTS and how it helped me grow.

❝ Don't be afraid to embrace new experiences. Dive into something unfamiliar and unexpected, as you never know what opportunities may arise. Commit yourself fully and enjoy every moment of the journey. ❞

OCVTS is celebrating Manufacturing Week!

Students in the Engineering Technology Program at the OCVTS Jackson Center visited KOMO Machine, INC. and its sister company, Polyurethane Machinery Corporation (PMC), in Lakewood today.

Director of Engineering, Steve Chen, and his knowledgeable staff were amazing hosts! During the tour, students learned about and saw firsthand how Komo designs and manufactures high-precision, American-made computer numerically controlled CNC routers and machining centers.

Komo serves industries working with wood, plastics, composites, aluminum, and ferrous metals for aerospace, automotive, cabinetry, and metal fabrication.

PMC specializes in manufacturing high-performance spray foam and polyurea coating equipment.

Komo and PNC also provide career opportunities in welding, fabrication, and electrical.

The tour included live demonstrations, including by an OCVTS graduate, and goody-bags with hats and t-shirts!

OCVTS is celebrating Manufacturing Week!

Students in the OCVTS Jackson Center Engineering Technology Program took a tour of Independence Cryogenic Engineering (ICE)/626 in Little Egg Harbor today. The company designs, builds, tests, and ships MRI and Xray machines. It was incredible! It was their first time hosting a tour! The CEO made a special welcoming video for our students because they need younger, skilled workers.

Kirk Stevenson, General Manager, led the tour and had the workers explain their backgrounds and how their diverse skill sets landed them there. Most of the employees were not college-educated, including an Engineer/Scientist, and a worker who did the gaming electronics for Dave & Buster’s.

The company competes with NASA and does business with companies such as Merck and Pfizer.

The students had such an amazing experience and learned so much about the work that goes into making these life-saving machines.

Cosmetology students at the OCVTS Toms River Center welcomed a special guest speaker! Lilly Gelnaw, Instructor Deb Gelnaw’s oldest daughter, is a former graduate of the OCVTS Brick Cosmetology program and currently works at Kinhouse, a salon in Manhattan, New York City.

Lilly shared her journey in the cosmetology industry and talked about how she got to where she is today. The students were very engaged and asked lots of great questions!

Lilly demonstrated a haircut for both the AM and PM classes, and shared tips and techniques for creating a beautiful, bouncy blowout.

She also spoke about the importance of continuing education and how her salon focuses on helping stylists grow. She explained how they provide ongoing training in haircutting, styling, product knowledge, pre-booking appointments, and the business side of the industry. She shared how supportive her salon is in helping stylists build their skills and become successful.

One thing Mrs. Gelnaw really appreciated was that Lilly encouraged the students to reach out to her anytime with questions or for advice. She was happy to offer her support as they begin their own journeys in cosmetology.

It was a wonderful experience for the students to hear from a former OCVTS graduate who is now working in New York City. It was especially inspiring for them to see the opportunities available to them in this industry!
