@downtownhampton really be having some charming restaurants.

Brunch @thedeep757 gave cozy old-school charm, good vibes, and the type of spot you slide into for a slow brunch or a happy hour with friends after work. Very quintessential downtown Hampton energy.

I ordered the scrambled eggs with cheese, bacon, the deep fried crab cake sandwich, and Gouda grits. The crab cake had a solid amount of crab meat, good flavor, and paired well with the tartar sauce. The Gouda grits had a nice savory Gouda flavor too and were super creamy.

Now the eggs… I personally felt like they were overcooked in a little too much butter for my liking, which kinda changed the texture and flavor for me.

Overall though, solid food, cute atmosphere, and definitely somewhere I’d come back to check out happy hour because I’ve heard really good things.

When The Roosevelt posted about their Green Book Dinner, I knew I had to get there. Made it work on the 18th, took the trip to Richmond, and I’m so glad I did.

Chef @leahbcooks Greenbook Dinner was more than a meal, it was a history lesson on a plate. Four courses, each one a love letter to Black Virginia food culture and the people who built it.

The menu called out three actual Green Book sites; businesses that kept Black Americans fed, safe, and celebrated during Jim Crow:

Skinney’s BBQ — a Richmond institution listed in the 1962 Green Book. Honored here with a smoky watermelon salad and peach granita.

Perry’s Restaurant — owned by Barbara and Spencer Perry, rooted in Jackson Ward. Honored with pilast’d scallops

Millers & Eggleston Hotel — listed in the 1947 Green Book. A safe haven for Black travelers and entertainers passing through Richmond. Honored with a grilled pork chop, french fried tomatoes, collards, and pork gravy.

Chef Leah Branch is a 2026 James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic and this dinner was magnificent. taken in The Roosevelt by @odestereats

New Restaurant Alert: @junesdaytime

The owners and executive chefs behind The Coop and Hearth have teamed up to open @junesdaytime .

Think counter-service done right: fresh brewed coffee, sandwiches, burritos, salads, soups, and house-made desserts baked fresh daily.

What I’ve had so far:

• Italian Combo: 10/10
• Power Bowl topped with fried chicken: absolutely fire 🔥🔥
• Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie: ate two of them and have zero regrets

If you’re looking for a quick breakfast, lunch, coffee run, or just an excuse to grab a cookie, Junes Daytime is worth adding to your list.
