This week, we’re celebrating the PA professional, the people who make it special, and the future PAs who are working hard to make a difference in the lives of their patients! Our next student spotlight is Jane Goodstein! 👏🏼

Jane was nominated as the student spotlight for her constant positive attitude and infectious energy she brings to the cohort. You’ll never find Jane without a smile on her face, inside and outside of the classroom!

🏡Hometown: Dublin, OH

✏️Undergrad: University of Pittsburgh (h2p!)

🩺Why PA: “I chose PA because I love learning about medicine and want to make a meaningful impact on patients’ lives! I love the inter-professional aspect of the role as well as the opportunity for lateral mobility, and am excited to learn and grow as a provider!”

🤓Specialty: “Emergency Medicine or Urgent Care”

🐾Fav part of ODU: “The people! I love our cohort and our professors, everyone is so approachable and makes coming to class so much more enjoyable! I am already mourning the fact I won’t see them everyday during clinicals </3”

✨Fun Fact: “I loveeeee to hike and travel. I got to hike an active volcano over August break which was so so incredible!” by @odupaprogram

Sterile technique?!? We know all about that! 😏
Cohort 14 has spent the last few weeks practicing scrubbing in, sterile technique, and gowning and gloving. We even had a special field trip to COSI (Central Ohio Surgical Institute) to get a first hand look into the OR and the peri-operative steps a patient takes before, during, and after surgery. Our next student spotlight is Emily Holland! 👏🏻
Emily was nominated as the spotlight for all of the hard work she puts in behind the scenes for the cohort. Emily has planned so many fun activities as Wellness Chair, keeping the cohort active and healthy! On top of that, she’s the queen of Quizlet and charts which have saved so many of us when it comes to exams!

🏡Hometown: Mineral Ridge, OH

✏️Undergrad: Ohio Dominican University

🩻 Clinical hours: MA at podiatry office

🩺 Why PA: “I chose PA school for the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships with my patients and to have a positive impact on their healthcare journey. After many injuries in my softball career, I was able to experience firsthand the impact that APPs have on patient care. I like the collaborative environment while still maintaining autonomy to diagnose and treat patients!”

🤓 Specialty: “My dream is pediatric orthopedic surgery but super excited for a wide range of experiences during clinicals so we’ll see!”

🐾Fav part of ODU: “The people!! It really is the people who make the place. I’m so thankful to be surrounded by such a wonderful and supportive group of people every day! The support we get from our professors and faculty is second to none”

Our next student spotlight is Jimmy Spear! 👏🏻
Jimmy was nominated as a student spotlight for the energy he brings to the cohort. He does a great job of balancing a hard working academic drive with a fun personality that makes class more enjoyable for everyone. Whether he’s giving it his all in school or on the volleyball court, his dedication is always on display!

🏡Hometown: Lakewood, OH

✏️Undergrad: OSU

🩺Why PA: “I chose PA school to help patients and because of my interest in medicine. I like the lateral mobility and growing career field as well. Being a PA is a dynamic position that offers being part of an inter-professional team and countless opportunities.”

🤓Specialty: “emergency med, trauma surgery, or interventional radiology.”

🐾Fav part of ODU: “My favorite part of PA school, especially at ODU, is the people and how engaging the professors are!”

We have so much to celebrate! 🎉
Cohort 15 is officially here! The class of 2028 was welcomed by faculty and members of SAAAPA on Monday and officially kicked off their first day of classes👏🏼 we are so excited for them to start their journey with the program!
Cohort 14 also celebrated the start of their last semester in didactic! 🤓 It is crazy to think that just one year ago we were starting the same journey, and in a few short months will be heading to clinicals!
There is so much love in this program, and we can’t wait to see what this next year has in store 🐾🤩 taken in Ohio Dominican University by @odupaprogram

We had SO much fun at our first annual Maria Jeric volleyball fundraiser! 🏐💙
The fundraiser was a huge success with 15+ teams coming out to compete, connect with one another and have lots of fun- all while supporting a great cause! 🎉 We were especially excited to see faculty, students from past cohorts, and OU’s PA school join us. It was such a great way to bring together the PA community. Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and volunteered their time to make this event possible. Our next student spotlight is Julia Harris! 👏🏼
Julia was nominated as the spotlight for her amazing work as Philanthropy chair! Julia works very hard to organize fundraisers and events like the Pickleball tournament for the cohort. Not to mention, she also consistently shares great study materials and offers up a smile to anyone she talks to. Julia’s work ethic and commitment to our class truly makes her a standout member of our cohort!

🏡 Julia’s Hometown: Cleveland, OH

✏️Undergrad: The Ohio State University

🩺Why PA: “One of the main things that inspired me to become a PA was the horizontal flexibility between specialties! I loved the idea of being able to practice medicine in many different fields. More importantly, I wanted to be a source of support while also having autonomy and knowledge to directly impact patients’ lives through medical decision making. PAs are the best!”

🤓Specialty: “Not sure! I have been interested in emergency medicine and cardiology so far. The in-patient setting is very appealing to me!”

🐾Fav part of ODU: “one of the biggest things I wished for in PA school was an amazing cohort! And BOY do I love this cohort! Everyone is very approachable, kind, and supportive! There is no competitive energy, it truly feels like we are all each others #1 supporters. Never a dull moment with Cohort 14😁”

After our trauma lecture on Friday, Cohort 14 had the opportunity to hang out with Columbus Fire and some of the providers on the Ohio Health Stroke units! It was so much fun to take a look inside the trucks, ask questions about the pre-hospital interventions that could be done, and hear all of their stories from being on the road. It was also neat to learn that the Stoke Unit staffs a PA as well- the opportunities after graduation are truly endless!
