Our Beautiful Girl (gulp) turns something that begins with a โ€˜2โ€™ today. She remains ever clever, generous and, as a testament to her intelligence, still without a single social media account. We love her. by @offball_stone

Long post warning: Shortly before I left The LA Times in March, a Times friend and colleague told me 'Your next job should not be the job you've always had.' Wise words! And an affirmation of a decision I had already made: After a long time in journalism at two great places to be a journalist, it was time for something different. That something different is a startup called OffBall that lives squarely at the center of the Venn diagram of sports and culture. It was born from a simple premise: a wish to find and share the good stuff on the Internet and to strip out the chaos and creeping tyranny of AI and the algorithm. Curated twice a day, in concert with a daily newsletter, OffBall sorts the chaos so you don't have to. A small, gifted team of online assassins scour the Internet round the clock, mining the publications, platforms and feeds for stories and content that surprise and delight us, and which in turn we hope will surprise and delight you. After nearly six months in the lab here at Los Alamos*, testing and retesting, designing and redesigning, OffBall is live. We have a newsletter that launched this morning. It's great. https://lnkd.in/g2dwG3Wu We have a logo/mascot! https://lnkd.in/gbVwGjjD We have a beautiful product built by our genius partners at Brooklyn's Alright Studios. We are very proud of what we've built, and very excited to build this out with you, The Friends of OffBall, our FOBs. Check us out at www.offball.news Follow us on social: Instagram https://lnkd.in/gmdfV9-5 Threads https://lnkd.in/g3eWdBji Facebook https://lnkd.in/g9YyZaTA WhatsApp https://lnkd.in/gNbqY2sd X https://x.com/OffBall_News LinkedIn https://lnkd.in/gK4RSeKe Reddit https://lnkd.in/gK4RSeKe And if youโ€™re so inclined would greatly appreciate you interacting with us - reshare, repost whatever! And for all my journalist and creator friends out there, pass along your stuff when it posts. We are all about sharing and resharing the good stuff. *There is no Los Alamos lab. I never left LA. Long thread. Thx for scrolling. It's great to be back in it. -30- by @offball_stone

Just a little shameless pre-Oscar drafting off the celebrity of my good friends, Alex and Susan Sherwin, son and wife of the late Marty Sherwin, author of โ€˜American Prometheus,โ€™ without which there is no โ€˜Oppenheimer,โ€™ or for that matter โ€˜โ€™Barbenheimer.โ€™ Thrilled for them.
