Guy Courtie began regularly playing onstage with “The best Cuban musicians in London” (The Standard) aged just 22, in TLE’s ‘Paradise Under the Stars’. He’s gigged with Latin powerhouse pianists Alex Wilson (Wynton Marsalis) and Eliane Correa (Hans Zimmer), Level 42’s legendary Mike Lindup, Grammy-winner Hammadi Valdes and more, from Pizza Express Soho to the Royal Albert Hall. Nurturing a deep love and respect for the Cuban tradition, Guy’s playing draws from years of listening, and touches everything from pop, Cuban, jazz, folk and more.

Guy’s composed for the BBC Symphony Orchestra percussion section, has passed 100,000 streams for writing/production, and has library music distributed through Universal Music Group. His commercial and art music are praised internationally as he steps further into London’s Latin, Jazz and pop scenes.

Guy has taken lessons from Munyungo Jackson (Miles Davis), Ralph Salmins (Paul McCartney, Aretha Franklin), Peter Erskine (Weather Report, Jaco), Ari Colares (Wynton Marsalis) and more. He studies closely with Ralph and with Will Fry (JUNGLE, Jamiroquai). He also gigs on bass and keys, to keep things fresh!

Josh Mitchell-Rayner (JMR) is a multifaceted composer, performer and educator who is originally from the city of Newcastle Upon Tyne. After a childhood filled with musical interest from early on; including being head chorister of Newcastle Cathedral (formerly St. Nicolas Cathedral), being a part of every school musical club and setting up a ‘jazz club’. Then in sixth form going onto join Jazz fusion Quartet, Knats and gigging for two years, co-writing music and performing it, with all of this, it’s safe to say whilst Josh was not formally educated in Jazz playing, he was deeply involved with the Jazz community from a young age of around 15.

In 2022, Josh was accepted to study composition at the Royal college of music, but would find himself three years into his degree doing a Joint Honours between Jazz piano and composition, studying with Mike Moran and with Errollyn Wallen and Haris Kittos respectively. He has been involved in external and internal concerts to the RCM and been involved in education such as RCM sparks, teaching privately as well. Josh is a passionate individual with an energy of both enthusiasm and respect, often showing his empathy through original music and communication with others. Being at RCM has given Josh the chance to play at Windsor Castle in front of King Charles III, acquire and maintain regular work playing for the East India Club Restaurant and develop his craft as a teacher and educator.

Josh is a well rounded, easy going but hardworking individual who is keen and adaptable to the needs of any employer, and is versatile and competent in any genre of music adjacent to Jazz, and Jazz itself, mainly specialising in Bebop, Modal and Cool Jazz, but has a keen interest in all types of music. Having a formal educational background at the RCM in contemporary classical composition allows Josh to have an open perspective to any type of music and allow me to be a creative improviser and composer, whilst also respecting the tradition of Jazz music out of passion and connection to the music on a personal level. by @offbeatquintet

Tess Miles is an increasingly sought after double bassist and bass guitarist. A versatile instrumentalist, she enjoys the freedom of genre that her instruments give her, as well as their natural inclination towards ensemble music. Hailing from Kent, she spent three years at the Royal Academy of Music’s Junior Department and now studies under Rodrigo Moro Martin and Carina Cosgrave at the Royal College of Music.

With a love of social music making, she is proud to be a part of the JMR Jazz Trio,Offbeat Quintet and the RCM Consort of Viols. She also frequently enjoys working with the Frances Knight Trio, including their two recent performances at the Broadstairs Jazz Festival. Larger ensemble work includes projects with the RCM Jazz, Philharmonic, and Symphony Orchestras, as well as the Work8hop Jazz Collective, New Tottenham Singers and Belsize Baroque Orchestra.

She is honoured to have performed at such prestigious venues as Windsor Castle, Pizza Express Soho, and Canterbury Cathedral alongside many prominent musicians. These incredible people include Gregory Hutchinson, Nicola Benedetti , Trish Clowes, Paul Booth, Frances Knight and Martyn Brabbins.

Increasingly, she has enjoyed teaching, with frequent work on the much-loved VivaStrings summer music course as a pastoral staff member and a bass tutor and as a tutor on the Bridge Summer Music Club. She also gives private lessons on both instruments, and is extremely proud of her fantastic students. by @offbeatquintet

Doing a gig and not knowing ourselves what was coming allows for SO much exploration and spontaneous creativity and I think that this clip pretty much embodies that. No idea to this day what that reharm was lmao but it hit DIFFERENT. Then so casually playing a blues lick and moving from organ to EP, all of these decisions not really even feeling like choices, but more like subconscious ideas expressing themselves. Completely insane on every level. Only possible because of my amazing friends and fellow musicians:
