For World Hip Hop Day (yesterday), we asked a few artists from around the world to share their first memory of hip hop, or the moment they knew they wanted to be part of it.

Hip hop has given us all a lot. It’s taken us places, introduced us to beautiful people and given so many of us a way to tell our stories.

Today’s a good day to give it some love.

@thisisgracechia has spent a lot flying back and forth to melbourne… might’ve lost money doing it. but it didn’t slow her down. didn’t close doors. if anything, it proved you can build something from where you are and still move how you need to move.

This one’s for anyone coming up in a smaller place, thinking they gotta pack up and leave to make it work. you don’t. not always.

Melbourne… that was incredible.

Seeing everyone show out for Hobart like that was something special + all the talent in the room coming together to do a cypher was hectic.

Australia actually makes up roughly 1.7% of the global recorded music market. Break that down by genre, and Australian hip hop is working within an even smaller corner of an already small industry.

@unojaal and @bilalliabok speak that reality can mess with your head... and what it means to keep making music here anyway.
