But there are powers, in the air, you can’t see them
And they have rockets and machine guns
And they’re firing on my plane … but I say fire!!!

In order to understand why this piece was so impactful for me and even my students at Acts dance studio we had to dig deeper. During this time, real stuff was happening in my students lives. Living up to expectations, Pressure, guilt, confusion, depression, lost the family members, being bullied, etc.. even high was going through a lot during this time a house fire that ended up relocating my family for seven months moving from hotel rooms to Airbnb, business not doing as well as I wanted it, expecting our third son, just just getting out of quarantine for Covid, our church disbanding andliving in faith limbo. During these dark times for us we were trying to hold onto to help with all of our strength. In my faith walk I was taught, and I observed to live life as a Christian. There are no bad days only my perception of the day was bad. And if I have enough faith and belief. God will get me out of the bad days. But what I learned from scripture is Jesus never prayed for us to get out of the bad days (John 17:15) but for him to get into the bad days with us (John 17:14-19). I’m reminded of a story in the Bible about the three Hebrew boys who got thrown into the fiery furnace and didn’t turn away from God even when the king threatened to kill them. (Daniel 3) when the king looked into the fire instead of seeing three silhouettes, he seen four. And when he called out to the boys to come out out of the fiery furnace and saw that they were not burned, nor where their clothes scorched or even smell like fire, he fell to his knees and commanded a nation to believe in their God, who stands in the fire with them. I say all this to say that this choreography was that for us, God was standing with us in our bad times and he showed us how faithful and loving he is to all of us some might believe that the song feels dark or depressing, but that was the exact picture that we wanted to share. That even though we are in a Dark Place, Jesus is there in the mist with us and as long as we hold onto hope we will make it through.
