THE UNDERSTANDING WIFE

The people who are there for you, make sacrifices for you, and stand by you regardless of the season are often the easiest people to take for granted.

Why?

Because they say, “I understand.”

And sometimes, we interpret “I understand” as “This is absolutely okay, and it can continue this way.”

But understanding is not permission to become careless.

One thing about human beings is that when they realize they can treat you a certain way without consequences, they don't always try to raise the standard. They gradually lower it. And before long, what was once an exception becomes the expectation.

That is how we end up saying, “You take me for granted.”

I think it is foolish to take people who understand you for granted.

Because one day, they may stop enduring.

And when they leave, you may realize that good people don't necessarily lose people; people lose good people.

In my home, we have deliberately built a culture of gratitude and effort.

We say thank you for the little things.

We let each other know, “I see you. I notice what you do. I don't take it for granted.”

And more importantly, when we recognize that the other person is enduring a difficult season with us, we make a conscious and obvious effort to improve the situation.

Because gratitude is not just saying thank you.

Sometimes, gratitude is changing.

Sometimes, it is doing better.

Sometimes, it is making the sacrifice smaller for the person who has been sacrificing for you.

And this isn't just about marriage, even though the picture may suggest that.

It is about every relationship.

Don't take access for granted.

Don't take simplicity for granted.

Don't take humility for granted.

Don't take understanding for granted.

Because the person who keeps saying “I understand” may not be saying “I will endure this forever.”

My Friday Meditations: THE DANGER OF SELECTIVE LISTENING

The greatest weapon the enemy can use against a man is his character. It's okay to have flaws, because, of course, no one is perfect; but when you despise appraisals and criticisms, and always blame everyone else for everything that goes wrong around you, then you have given the enemy a serious weapon against you.

Unfortunately, many walk around with a preconceived notion about things as it suits their own desires, so they pretend to listen as long as that counsel aligns with their own desires. The unwillingness to accept contrary opinions and weigh them on a truth scale is a great tool for the devil.

In education, there is something called the professional's blind spot. This concept has guided my life and helped me listen more. You can't see everything from where you stand. You need to learn to be humble enough to listen with an open heart. This is a hard thing to do, especially when you may need to unlearn a few things, but it is very profitable in the long run. You must be a student forever. The enemy doesn't like learners because they remain relevant for a long time.

My question to you is; are you listening to learn, or just to be agreed with? Judge yourself!

As for me, my goal is not to be always right but to do right. At the end of the day, weytin really deh this life? What are we fighting for??

My mentality is that I want to do as much as I can with the amount of time the Lord has blessed me with so I won't let me stop me just because I must always be right. Be teachable, it doesn't reduce you!
